    Global warming is killing me

This is funny. I am south Florida born and raised, and I was just thinking ... This global warming thing is finally paying off!

    Building a wort chiller

I made a 50' wort chiller, and of the items I bought, I thought the price of the hose adapter was the most ridiculous. 50' of soft copper from the local plumbing supply house was $35.

Bud Light tries to look crafty

I am not a beer snob, but I have to say that Bud Light is the worst beer on the market.

    Spiced winter ale question

Could you make a spiced vodka by steeping the spices in the alcohol and then add it to the keg to taste? I wound up doing the above just to try it. It worked out great. I made a spiced vodka with the spices that I would have added to the boil, and I brewed the ale to compliment them. When I...

Any Tips for Small Batch all Grain Brewing?

I actually did the one gallon all grain BIAB before I did 5 gallon extract batches, then went back to 3 gallon BIAB (mainly because, in my case, I thought the one gallon grain batches were better beers than the extracts) and now 5 gallon MT/HLT batches. What I learned is that it takes the about...

Do you want to laugh/know how good a business is (American) beer in Finland, Europe?

Most of the time, not including club levels and other special access areas, they are the only two beers on tap. So yes, people pay.

Any Tips for Small Batch all Grain Brewing?

dOne gallon batches I have done were Brew in a Bag, and I just mashed on the stove top while minding the temperature. I have also hit strike temp and mashed BIAB in the brew kettle wrapped in a comforter. Only lost two degrees in an hour and I didn't have to babysit it. BIAB saves time (no...

Any Tips for Small Batch all Grain Brewing?

You can eyeball it and get decent results, but if you really want to be certain about your measurements, you can also get a small digital scale from Harbor Freight for about $6. In my experience, small adjustments or mis-measurements have a much larger impact when brewing a 1 gallon batch.

Do you want to laugh/know how good a business is (American) beer in Finland, Europe?

Nope. $10 Bud and Bud Light is the norm at sporting events.

    Hops Woes

If the hops are vacuum packed with an inert gas and unopened, then I have a tough time believing that there is much of a benefit to keeping them stored in the freezer. If they are opened, then yeah, the freezer will most likely extend their useful life.

Do you want to laugh/know how good a business is (American) beer in Finland, Europe?

Ok. Best of luck to you in opening your pub! Depending upon where that bar is located (airport, fancy shopping district, etc.), those prices seem too far out of line. Well, no more than beer prices in general which are ridiculous across the board. Heck, if you go to a football game in the...

I asked Santa for a 15 gallon brew kettle.

Do you want to laugh/know how good a business is (American) beer in Finland, Europe?

Dollar to Euro exchange is almost even nowadays, so you a talking $10 to $12 for a pint. I imagine their taxes are higher, duty to import it ... etc. Those beers are selling for $6.50 and $7 a pint here, so $10 or $13 seems about right. I have seen plenty of 750 ml sized bottles here...
