opinions on moving from extract to all grain

I was just sharing my experience and agreeing with you by the way?? The OP asked for help, and I thought sharing my moving on to all grain experience may help him out since I tried both methods. :dunno:

opinions on moving from extract to all grain

Thanks for the advice. I could have put more effort into dialing in the process before I moved on I made some very good beer with BIAB, including a really great batch of Sam Smiths Winter Welcome clone.

opinions on moving from extract to all grain

This is a good idea, and essentially how I got into all grain. Though I bought my bag from the LHBS. In fact, my first ever batch of real beer, not counting Mr. Beer a decade ago :( , was a one gallon all grain BIAB Espresso Stout that I did on my stove top in a kitchen pot. It turned out...

Feeling ready to give up on BIAB.

When I started all grain I was always low on efficiency. It takes time and using your set up to figure out your actual system losses and volumes. The volume being the biggest variable for me. Sometimes the stated volume of the kettle isn't really accurate. I have one 30 quart kettle that...

opinions on moving from extract to all grain

You can do a three vessel for very little money. You don't really need stands. Add a few dollars in cpvc, thermotube or silicone tube and gravity to what I posted above, and you are all set.

opinions on moving from extract to all grain

This is what I did. It doesn't have be expensive. I tried BIAB, and I made some very good beers that way. Ultimately, I moved on to the Mash tun because its just easier, and the cost to try it out was very low. I got tired of constantly babysitting my BIAB mashes. Add a little heat, watch...

NEWBIE - Please Help Me Get Started!

You could, but its more like double for a 50' IC.

NEWBIE - Please Help Me Get Started!

For a cheap IC, just go to the plumbing supply house and buy a roll of 3/8 or 1/2 soft copper ($25 to $35)and four SS hose clamps ($1) then get some vinyl tube from the and a hose adapter from the hardware ($5), then make your own. All you really need to do all grain, is a pot, a BIAB bag (or...

    All-grain Brewing Alone

Lately, I have been thinking about moving to either ten gallon batches or partigyle to maximize the time spent on mashing and sparging. Its seems like I could almost make two brews in the time it takes to make one 5 gallon batch now.

Ptfe tape is getting shredded by the threads on ball valve

Thanks. I am going to try your method on the next one. I went ahead and bought the three piece valves for my BK and Pump discharge. Yours do sound easier, but the only others I have seen cannot be disassembled.

Ptfe tape is getting shredded by the threads on ball valve

Could be an interesting poll. Ok, so you are starting to sway me to your side. What is your process on brew day?

    What are you drinking now?

A centennial IPA I brewed a couple of weeks ago.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

    Brewing an Oatmeal Stout today.

    My first brew!

Pay attention. These are words to live by. Every couple of batches or so I ask my wife what she would like, and its fun to make a batch for her then enjoy the beer together.

    All Extract Weizenbock?

Its winter, is your house on the cool side? Hopefully, time will help the carb issue. Typical flavors should be banana and clove. The main off flavor I have heard of with the yeast is bubble gum, and though I haven't experienced it, I thin it is from fermenting at too high a temp.

    All Extract Weizenbock?

Man, sorry to hear that. I know its disappointing. At what temp have the bottles been sitting? Has it been in the bottles for 2.5 weeks or is that total time?

Nice! You must be a project manager.

Ptfe tape is getting shredded by the threads on ball valve

Like I said, overkill on my part. You are right, in theory, the boiling wort should sterilize everything in in the loop.

Ptfe tape is getting shredded by the threads on ball valve

The few breweries I have visited were spotless. That said, you may be right about the homebrew rig. Its probably overkill on my part. The issue I have is that my hot side lines and pump that I use to whirlpool are also the lines that chill and double as the cold side lines to the...
