American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Did the partial mash version of this a month ago and just got to tapping it. I used Simcoe for all additions and dry hopped with an oz of Simcoe as well. I also used 6LB pilsen LME instead of regular light DME since it's what I had on hand and pitched us-05 yeast. I added 8oz maltodextrin to...

Stout turned out like soda instead of beer

"no temp control" can easily lead to too high of a fermentation temperature in the fusel production range. Fusel alcohols can produce fusel oils which will kill the head. Also 4 days on gas might not be sufficient for the carbonation to really take hold of the beerand it could just be...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Goal was 5.25, I updated the recipe to show what I actually poured into the fermenter instead of what my goal was.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

So I'm new to all-grain and this is my second BIAB batch. I probably shouldn't have, since this recipe sounds amazing as-is, but I was wanting a stronger stout anyways, so I figured I'd just boost this recipe up. I brewed this yesterday and overshot my volume slightly and ended up with 6 gallons...

American Porter Founder's Porter Clone - Partial Mash

I've done a good bit of reading on this recipe and standard chocolate malt 350L is what you want. You can find more info here. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=160119

Yep! Looks like I'll be adding a mill to my Christmas list. :ban:

First BIAB: Expected OG 1.064/Actual 1.052 - What happened?

I was doing a porter (recipe at end of post) for my first BIAB. Strike water @161, mash temp 154 for 60 minutes. I was able to keep this pretty consistent after wrapping the kettle with a thick blanket. Mashed in full volume of 7 gallons. No clue of water PH, but it was straight from the tap...

Critique my "Kitchen Sink" Red IIPA

During a sale a month or two ago, I purchased an irish red kit and a sierra Nevada pale ale clone kit, both extract + steeping grains. I have similar beers in the pipeline currently and I'd like to use these ingredients plus some extra hops to make a unique IIPA. I'm mainly asking for...

American Porter Edmund Fitzgerald Clone (AG)

Just bought the grains for this recipe as my first BIAB venture. Been extract + steeping grains for years and finally bit the bullet.

Suck back during cold crashing and a poss remedy?

An S-bubbler will prevent liquid intake (starsan/vodka/whatever is in your airlock), but it will just function in reverse. Reverse function means that it will still allow oxygen to enter through suck-back from the temperature transfer.

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Would it be silly to try this as my first all-grain (BIAB) batch if I've had 50+ extract + grain brews under my belt? Should I stick with something with a lower grain bill like the Centennial Blonde?

    Using grape juice in wort?

I added my grape juice for the saison at flame out which helped pasteurize the juice so any leftover bugs were dealt with, and eliminated any boil related haze issues from the fruit juice. I had no issues with a lack of aroma from the juice.

    Using grape juice in wort?

I made an extract + grain version of Norther Brewers "Saison Du Vin" which called for 46oz of Sauvignon Blanc grape juice. The end result was one of the top 3 beers I've ever made. Recipe I used had 1LB of Belgian Caramel Pils steeped 40 minutes 6lbs pilsen LME 46oz Sauvignon Blanc...

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

Trying to decide between this recipe and an Old Rasputin clone. Can someone who has tasted this recipe as well as Old Rasputin give me some thoughts? Old Rasputin and Yeti are two of my favorite RIS's. Would this recipe get me in that direction or is it a different style of RIS without much of a...

    Basic sanitizing

What are you rinsing out? Starsan is specifically a no-rinse sanitizer. This is the reason most people use it as their sanitizing solution. Don't fear the foam.

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

Huh? NB has some pretty significant sales throughout the year. They just recently had a 20% off everything sale, a handful of extract kits w/ grains for only $14.92 for Columbus day when most of them cost around $30 year round, and the IPA day sale where there were a handful of IPA kits for only...
