Can't brew a light colored wheat beer, help?

In "Brewing Classic Styles" they say to make a normal gravity wort and then add the remainder of your extract at flameout. So If you're boiling 3-4 gallons I'd try adding half your extract as usual, then at the end of the boil, take it off the heat and stir in the rest. Everything I've read...

HB1186 - Colorado Craft beer in Convenience Stores - boooo

I'd love to get the States out of the alcohol business completely other than providing a license (and collecting the tax)...but state run ABC = illegal monopoly IMO...and State sanctioned at that...

    Legal Age to Brew?

No worries unless we have idiot politicians waiting to pounce on my invitiation ;) In that case we'll move it elsewhere.

    Legal Age to Brew?

We're also in a nation that intentionally poisoned and killed 10,000+ people during prohibition...where do you think "denatured" alcohol came from? When the funky taste wasn't enough to stop folks from drinking it the govt ordered industrial alcohol manufacturers to poison their...

    Legal Age to Brew?

The fact that anyone would think this is a good idea is what is wrong with this country. Not bashing you, but I can already see some politician looking for something the media can latch onto and trying to regulate the purchase of plastic buckets and grain. I actually hope it happens because I...

Bottle label removal - just an experience

I use generic oxyclean. I use 1/2 scoop (I think the container says 1 scoop per gallon.....way to move product guys?!!!!!!) in 5 gallons. I basically sink my bottles into it after it's about 2/3 full. The labels are usually laying on the bottom in a few hours.

    Primary/Secondary Timing

Na, you'll find a use for that carboy :P Big beers can benefit from sitting in bulk for a while...that's where you're carboy will come into play...or if you start doing lagers ;P

    Beer Wars: The Movie

Leffe has been owned by Inbev for a long time...Belgians don't F' around with beer. I brought back some "Del Haize" aka "Food Lion" (Del Haize = Food Lion, betcha didn't know the belgians owned that did you?)....the Del Haize beer is better than 90 % of the crap we stock on the shelves here...

Extended Primary vs. Extended bottle conditioning

It all depends on how well you have your brewing technique down and the style of beer. 1 week in primary probably isn't enough though unless you've been brewing the same beer forever and harvesting yeast so they are in tune with your brew. I'd say 2-3 weeks in the primary for an average beer...

did i wait too long before bottling???

I'll chime in with the obligatory "they are ruined. Send them to me and I will properly dispose of them" post ;)

    Precise Carbonation Question

Nice! I was going to try to carb my cream stout to style...now I have an idea of where to start.

    Primary/Secondary Timing

I've brewed 5 batches so far, and have only used my secondary once...this week actually. The only reason I did it was to free up my primary (I did a big belgian that needs to sit for a bit). I believe the general consensus these days is don't even bother with a secondary unless it's a really...

    Primary/Secondary Timing

Just leave it in the primary. I wouldn't even move it to dry hop. 4 weeks in primary isn't going to cause any problems and every time you transfer you risk contamination and oxidation.

    Flying with beer

I has to be checked. I brought back a suitcase full from Belgium this way ;) The only clothing in the suitcase was wrapped around the bottles.

So much for brew night! (Includes destruction and mayhem)

Wal-Mart, Target, Lowes, Homedepot, the local hardware store...They all carry the "use once and toss it" type. Should be $20 or less.

Why not Bleach for Bottle Cleaning

I heard the same podcast. He says that bleach (properly prepared) is an excellent sanitizer and is indeed no-risne at those concentrations. His biggest problem with bleach is that without the vinegar addition the ph isn't right to truly sanitize, and then there's the safety issue of someone...

So much for brew night! (Includes destruction and mayhem)

One note about extinguishers. Don't put it in a cabinet over the stove....my mom used to keep hers there until I asked her "if you have a fire on the stove, how are you going to get it?"

    craft brewers alliance

It's not as evil as it sounds though. This sort of thing goes on in any healthy industry. Lets say you have product X...it's amazing...it's the best thing since sliced bread....but no one knows who you are. Who is this XYZ company? What you do is partner with someone already in that market...

    I made drinkable beer!

I got a starter kit for Christmas and of course brewed the next day. I've been drinking the first batch for a bit now and thought it was pretty good...not great but good. Anyway I gave some away and gave instructions to put it in the fridge on Friday and drink Superbowl Sunday. The good news...
