New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

I am lust getting this to secondary tonight but using 4 oz instead of 3. Tried a little during transfer and this is a very smooth bitterness. Almost a bit "Lemony" I would say this hop would be a good base bittering hop in the recipe I posted but keep the original citra dry hop. Guess I will see...

New to HBT forums, brewing a yr or so... Hi from Western PA!

Clean and sanitize. When I first started I read the label on a cleaner that said it sanitized too. It doesn't. That may not be what happened to you but cleaning and sanitizing are your friends. Taking apart a spigot like Homer said will also keep the evil nasties out. You could have had complete...

New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

No problem Robert and if you need another ounce for dry hop just let me know. I wont get to brew mine for a couple of weeks since I did not get to brew this weekend. I did clear all of my fermenters this weekend and now have roughly 75 gallons of empty fermenters begging for more. That one I am...

How many kegs do you own?

24 Kegs and 8 of them are empty. Working on solving that soon though. Also looking at getting 4 Pin locks for use on a stout tap. Going to add that next year to the 6 tap keezer.

New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

Yep I thought it wise to pick up this in combination with the Citra. I am going to try and use this in place of Citra and see what it is like. Sounds good and it might not be so offensive if there a different bittering hop combination. I am going to try a Marynka-Belma combo.

Schlafly Tripel - Anyone have a recipe?

I agree on the sugar amount although I always try to keep it under 16% due to the possibility of cider like off flavors I read about. With my Golden Monkey clone I also tried a method I heard and that was take the sugar and put it in after primary fermentation was about finished. Someone said it...

    Popit valves

I have found this to be the key. I have an old dremel bit that is wore down and just center it on the poppet and give it a good smack. Just don't hit your fingers.

    State of Alabama Hates Homebrewing?

This is why people need to start taking an active stance against all of this BS. Pretty soon they wont be able to even make bread because there are traces of ethanol in the dough. hope for a pizza in AL? You have to go to the next state. Wont be able to purchase bakers yeast.

How many gallons of BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde have been brewed?

3491+10=3501 Brewed it and hit everything spot on looks good in the fermenter. Have 2 kegs standing by and ready to fill. Even have an open tap.

"Minute layer" residue coming off my stainless steel kettle?

You mean they don't use refined unicorn fatty oils when they stamp stainless. Guess I am getting bad information.

Looking for Lost Abbey - Judgment Day Clone

I have to try that on my next batch. This is in keg and very good at this point. I need to get a bottle of the original to make a side by side. Without it, I think this is very close from what I can remember. If they fire roasted raisins, I will only be able to tell on a true side by side. It is...

Looking for Lost Abbey - Judgment Day Clone

Ok tonight I have been at 1.014 for a few days. I think I am done with primary. Rousing the yeast did the trick for bringing it down. The raisin flavor is almost completely gone so tomorrow I transfer this to secondary with the puree. As the base beer goes, I think it is spot on. Hopefully after...

Schlafly Tripel - Anyone have a recipe?

Not really sure on steeping and tannin extraction so someone familiar with this method may be able to chime in. For a 5 gallon batch here are the numbers I came up with Amt Name Type # %/IBU 12.0 oz...

Schlafly Tripel - Anyone have a recipe?

I seen 1 gallon boil and thought you were wanting this scaled to a 1 gallon batch. That is why mine looks so different. I misunderstood your intent.

Schlafly Tripel - Anyone have a recipe?

1 gallon boil then divide the whole thing by 10 because the recipe I setup was for a 10 gallon batch. You could probably mix some of the LME with dry to reduce volume. I would also change the hopping schedule to look more like this. Everything I have read on Tripels you only want additions for...

WLP545 - Belgian Strong Ale Yeast (Platinum Series)

I agree with Wolv on the banana nose but I guess since I ferment my Belgian beers at the upper end of the range, I did get some banana and peppery notes. This my go to yeast for my Golden Monkey clone and works like a champ. I think this yeast is much more efficient if you add simple sugars at...

These and furniture feet that are hollow. Got some of the brass inserts for wood tap handles (McMaster part number #90016A031) and some color changing LEDs, wired it up and set the insert inside with a set screw. I was going for the lighting effect that I have not seen before.
