I was there Monday looking at the plastic ones. I will probably get one next week. I like the fact that they are lighter and are shatterproof.

Fermentation started Friday evening, no bubbles today (Tuesday). If the FG is good, can I bottle it tonight or is it too soon? I just read on www.howtobrew.com that it is 2-3 weeks for ales before they can be bottled. What if the FG is where it should be? You don't want in sitting for too...

I was wanting to try the two stage method, but I don't have a 5 gallon carboy. My question is, why can't I just use a food grade 5 gallon bucket? I can pick one up at the local donut shop for like 75 cents. Is there a problem with this?

I made a yeast starter. 1/2 cup of 90 degree water and covered with Saran Wrap.

Ok, I was gone all day today. When I got home I looked at the airlock and I am only getting about two bubble a minute. It hasn't even been three days yet, is this a little too fast. Is there anything else I should do?

Well, I did a search on the internet and found that it isn't recommended. Oh well, I guess I will just stick with the single stage brewing for this batch. I was just wanting to avoid some of the settlement in the bottles.

Are 5 gallon water buckets ok to use for a secondary fermenter? I have one and I was thinking about sterilizing and using it. It is a 5 gallon clear Culligan water bucket.

Talked to the man at the brew store. It was extract, I found out that corn syrup was clear. Thanks for everyones advice.

I said the man at the store gave "me", he actually gave my wife since I was at work at the time. I thought it was corn syrup since it was in a clear plastic container. Could it have been extract? You guys have me worried if it was corn syrup. Next time, I should probably go.

My wife went and bought me a hydrometer today. I started brewing this evening and after I filled my fermenter up to five gallons, I went to get my OG reading and discovered that the hydrometer was broke. I went ahead and added the yeast even though I didn't know what the OG reading was...
