    Cheap and easy aeration gadget

I was inspired by this thread, here's my take. I think the hole is a bit big, so I've picked up a 1/16th bit (previous one broke). Can't wait to see it in action on my next brew day.

    ghetto brew setups?...

In the ghetto... In the ghetto (singing like Cartman).

    Victoria BC Hombrew group

Time to revive this thread! There is a club/guild of Victoria BC brewers forming around a couple of local blogs. It looks like things are crystalizing this fall. If you are in the Victoria area and are interested contact the good folks at beerontherock.com. Cheers! :mug:

I think I have found my next project... Brewday over labour day weekend! :mug:

Attention hipsters: this is the correct way to drink PBR

To answer the OP, it cannot be the correct way to drink a pbr. It does not involve a fixed gear bike, rolled jeans, ironic mustaches, washed out photography, slam poetry or some band that's "kind of obscure, you probably haven't heard of them." Not that I like to generalize. :)

    First AG batch today!

It’s happily bubbling away in my cool basement. Thanks for all the help HBT!

    First AG batch today!

Thanks for the help folks. OG ended up at 1.052 (was shooting for 1.054). Very happy with the results. Just putting the rug-rat to bed, then I'll pitch. I have to say that my anemic immersion wort chiller seemed to do just fine. The hardware store only carried 20 ft of tubing. Seemed to do...

    First AG batch today!

    20m left in the boil (90m as per advice), and almost down to proper volume. Thanks all, it's almost like you crazy bastards have done this before. :mug;

    First AG batch today!

Having a beer, and feeling philosophical about it. Ill check the post boil gravity, but it may be more of a session beer. Big deal. Maybe I'll dry hop it (since the FWH has likely had the bejesus boiled out of it). It's "off" anyway. May as well get experimental. :mug:

Post boil I was looking for 1.054.

    First AG batch today!

I was shooting for 6.5 gal and boil down to 5.5.

    First AG batch today!

Shoot! Too much sparge! 7 gallons! Dang it. Can I just boil it down ?

    First AG batch today!

Ok, now a little worried. My gravity before boil is 1.03. WTF? Does it go up that much after the boil?

    First AG batch today!

Reporting back, all good now. Air in the line. Collecting sparge now, flowing smooth. Getting to know my system I suppose.

    First AG batch today!

Well, this is what I get for being cocky. Wicked slow lautering. Wicked slow. I guess these things aren't supposed to be fast? It's going to be 1/2 hour to get the wort out. Is that normal?

    First AG batch today!

I used a 2 quart jug. Time consuming, but accurate (no sight glasses yet in the keggles). I don't think it is a big deal though, I think you want to slowly add it anyway.

    And the weather has cooperated...

    First AG batch today!

So far so good! Nailed the mash temp like it was the homecoming queen. 14 minutes to go on the mash!

    First AG batch today!

Today is my first AG batch! I'm brewing KingBrianI's Common Room ESB due to the excellent reviews (and straight forward mash schedule). My only deviation so far from the original recipe is that I'm using Nottingham dry yeast, as my LHBS did not have any S-04. :( This is the first test of my...
