    Rehydrating yeast

Boiled water and let it cool to approx 24c, sprinkle in yeast, leave for 15 mins then stir then leave for another 15. I guess the water temp was too cold and I found when I stirred I got clumps on my spoon which were hard to get off When I pitched soon after and poured in the liquid it was...

    Rehydrating yeast

I have just started another Young's American extract kit, this time an IPA. Although the instructions say sprinkle the dry yeast this time I rehydrated it. When dry yeast is pitched it settles on top of the wort but after pitching the rehydrated yeast, it pretty much settled straight to the...

    BOTTLE CONDITIONING YOUNG'S APA

Hi All, I have my bottles conditioning at 21-22c and by Sunday will have done so for 2 weeks. The instructions say condition in warm temperatures for 2 weeks and then a further week at cooler temps. (not cold) but they give no indication what warm and cool temperatures should be. Any...

    Over carbonated

Perhaps my message wasn't so clear. No the last kit was in the fermenter for 3 weeks before bottling. This Young's kit I am doing now was in for 2 weeks with 2 similar fg readings at the end. I bottled it at 2 weeks and it is now into its 4th day of conditioning.

    Over carbonated

I used the recommended supply that came with the kit, I cant remember the amount but it was supplied with it. I guess the temperature is too high if it has got to this level after only 2 days?

    Over carbonated

Yes I did and they were both the same although perhaps my readings were taken at different temps. Are you suggesting it may not have finished primary fermentation? The beer was cloudy when I bottled it unlike the last kit I did from what I can remember. Mind you for that kit I left it in primary...

    Over carbonated

So having brewed a Coopers Australia Pale Ale and being very disappointed with the taste, I have embarked on a Young's APA extract kit. 2 weeks in fermentation at circa 21/22c and bottled for 2 days. I think the temp has risen too much as the thermometer read 23c for the bottle temperature and...

Youngs APA extract kit yeast type

Would anyone know what dried yeast is used in this kit? I was hoping to work out what the best pitching temperature would be. Thanks

    Young's APA

I would like to start on the next brew with the above extract kit. The instructions say to dry hop loose using the pellets provided. With my last brew I used a hop bag but these instructions suggest otherwise. Any thoughts on best practice?

    10 days into brew

Be interested to see how this goes after 2 weeks in bottle. I brewed the same kit and fermented for 3 weeks and as of today has been bottled 2 weeks. I also dry hopped for the last week. Taste thus far is disappointing and not dissimilar to the home brew taste from years ago.

    Next brew

thanks for the tip. the bottled beer has that typical home brew taste! yeasty and not that pleasant.

    Next brew

So I have brewed my 1st batch using a coopers starter kit with an Australian pale ale and dry hopped the 3rd week. Fermented 3 weeks then bottled 10 days ago. I had a sneak taste tonight after putting a bottle in the fridge a couple of days ago and there it is - tht! I hope the taste improves...

    Final Gravity

I may have over filled slightly beyond the 23l mark

    Final Gravity

Check fg today and it was 1.010 @ 20c. 3 days ago it was the same @ 22c. OG was 1.038, so it looks like the abv is only 3.75% when it should be 5% for a coopers apa extract kit. the beer is clearer so shall I just ho ahead and bottle it? it seems a bit watery but if left another week in the FV...

    Driving me mad

fermented at 1st 22c, dropped to 20c and kept constant and has only just now has risen to 22c again. yeast used was ale yeast that came with coopers apa kit

    Driving me mad

and now day 12, sample tastes almost the same homebrew taste but smelt inside the lid and potent almost vinegary smell!!

    11 days in

Thank you for all your advice and the plan now is to leave in the FV for 3 weeks with dry hopping for the 3rd week. Today is the 11th day, the brew is still cloudy and a small taste earlier reminded me of that home brew taste and smell from years ago. There still appears to be some bubbles...

    Dry hopping cascade

If I dry hop cascade pellets and leave them for a week. What would the recommended amount to use and would a week be too long? I don't want it overly hoppy just enough to add a nice taste. The kit is an all extract coopers apa .

    Gravity reading

    Gravity reading

I have a coopers plastic hydrometer which came with the kit. When I 1st tested it with water it read .998 when I believe water should be 1.000? Therefore, when the original gravity of the beer read 1.038, should I be subcontracting .002 from this reading and should I do the same from today's...
