    Beerworks President's Sierra Kit

Hi All, Bit of advice please - I pitched yeast into the Sierra kit too hot @ 26c on sunday. By Monday am, however, there was vigorous fermentation with healthy krausen but when I returned last night this had died down and there seemed to be a bit of a rotten egg smell (seems to have gone)This is...

In need of perfection (or even a bit closer to it!)

when you refer to no higher than 20c, are you referring to ambient or liquid temperature? thanks

In need of perfection (or even a bit closer to it!)

It seems to me the culprit could well be water. I am still not clear what bottled water is best and the difference; Distilled Mineral Spring? The other issue could be high fermentation temps but I have always followed guidelines. If brewing at 22c and the stick on thermometer and insulated...

when I mentioned the temperatures I was actually referring to the temp of the liquid and not ambient temps so it might not be as high as you think. When the instructions refer to a temp range of 20-24c, I assumed it was referring to temperature of the liquid and this is what I have based mine on.

I've tried to reply to individual questions in the above 2 posts and have clearly failed but have outlined my process further above

Hi, I will try and respond individually but I have outlined my technique near the bottom of the post.

Thanks all for so many responses, yes that is the kit exactly and the instructions, correct. To talk through the process, this has been as follows. 1. Sanitizing using VWP steriliser. This is after washing all kit post last brew and pre next one. My sterilising is very thorough and I don't...

In need of perfection (or even a bit closer to it!)

So now on my 3rd extract brew which is a Young's AIPA which I have just bottled. Now all three different kits I have done are far from perfect. I understand extract kits will not produce as good a result as all grain but I was hoping for something a little less of the same taste. I can't...

    Bottle Conditioning Temperature

Forgive me for previously raising similar. John Palmer explains that bottles should be conditioned up to 30c for 2 weeks. Mine have just gone in at 25c. Any thoughts on this?

    CLEAR BEER

if I leave the the vessel in the fridge for another week this means the dry hops would have been in for 2 week - will that be an issue?

    CLEAR BEER

Can you explain what you mean by this? I dont have an airlock

    CLEAR BEER

I have had a Young's American IPA extract kit in fermenting vessel for just over 3 weeks, dry hopped loose pellet in the final week. I would like to bottle tomorrow but despite putting the fermenter in the fridge overnight at 6c, the beer is still full of floating particles and is not in the...

    FG

thanks all for your responses. I am going to post a new thread in relation to the same brew.

    FG

OG was 1.051 (lower, I believe than it should have been). fermenting for 3 weeks tomorrow. Instructions state 6.5% abv so with a fg of 1.051 looks like I will be below that.

    FG

Young's extract American IPA showing an FG of 1.010. This seems a little high doesnt it? FG has been consistent for a few days but another hydrometer that came with a coopers kit is reading 1.005. 1st Hydrometer is Alla so I would expect it to be more accurate. OG was 1.051. Any suggestions please?

    Rehydrating yeast

Thank you all for your input, really appreciated. Clearly the water was not warm enough when I put the yeast in and the clumps probably a result of not leaving the yeast in water long enough after stirring. That said the fermentation really took off and was much more active compared to times I...
