How many times do you reuse your bottles?

So....when I do bottle, which is rare, I do heat them up in the dish washer to sanitize. Do you really think this will play into weakening then over time?

Help! Mash tun drops 10 degrees!

Hey everyone, just wanted to says thanks again for the great info. Since my last post, I've used both methods of wrapping my mini mash tun in a blanket, and the BIAB in the oven. Both have given me great results (less than 3 degree drops), but I've gotta say, I'm hooked on the simplicity and...

American Amber Ale House Amber (AG & Extract)

Quite of monster of a thread you have going on here, Schlenkerla! I'm brewing the extract version this weekend, and partial mashing the grains in my 6qt mini-mash tun. Thanks for the recipe, 7 years ago! Haha

    delabeling bottles

If you'd like some nice 16 oz. bottles, Weihenstephaner is by far the easiest label to remove. Soak overnight in B-brite (or oxi-clean) and they literally fall off.

Hop Heads - Please help with my first Black IPA!

Thank you for the insight, and very good advice! I'll definitely dry hop with 1oz Citra and 1oz. Cascade...what would you recommend as a "huge hop stand?" 1oz. of each? I do love citra, maybe a blend of Citra mainly...and half ounces of the others? My big question is: how the heck do they...

Hop Heads - Please help with my first Black IPA!

Yes, there seems to be a fine line between a hoppy porter, and a black IPA - the main reason I included this in the grain bill was because Abita did as well. Imperator wasn't roasted at all...just a nice smooth maltiness (caramel, yes) to counteract the bitterness. I actually LOVED the fact...

Hop Heads - Please help with my first Black IPA!

Hello! As the title said - this is my first attempt at a black IPA. I caught the bug after trying Abita "Imperator" for the first time, and holy cow am I impressed. Traditionally I stay on the maltier side of things - but I couldn't help but just appreciate how balanced and smooth this black IPA...

Help! Mash tun drops 10 degrees!

I've got to say....maybe it's becuase I've haven't dug deep enough on HBT, but I've never heard of a BIAB in an oven. I'm very intrigued now... When you preheat the oven to 170, are you also heating up the mash water on the stove top to striking temp? Then add in the grains, stir, place in...

    Nut brown disappointment!

Sounds like your temp and yeast were good...and definitely does not require a secondary. I'd let it bottle condition for a week, then put a 6 pack in the fridge for another 2-3 weeks. After some cold conditioning, the flavors may mellow out a bit more.

    Nut brown disappointment!

My first beer ever was a "nut brown" extract kit - and a huge disappointment. However, I did make some rookie mistakes.... like not temp controlling, and used a very poor strand of yeast. Would you mind sharing some of your process in creating yours? Also when it comes down to it, you could...

Is your Dog a Brew Dog?

Thank you for this idea! I've already made my first couple grain biscuits for the pup and will continue to do so on brew day from now on!

Help! Mash tun drops 10 degrees!

Thank you for the advice! It is time I finally do something about it instead of moping around when I look at my temp gauge - I will try the aluminum foil technique and ditch the probe next time. If that doesn't work, I may look into a new mash tun...

Help! Mash tun drops 10 degrees!

So - I've used my little partial mash tun for at least 15+ brews at this point, and only recently have I noticed such a variation in my temperatures. It's gotten to the point where I cannot hold on to a constant temp without it dropping at least 5-10 degrees. Some background info - It is a...

American Pale Ale Dry hopped Citra APA - no secondary

After compiling a few ideas from many citra pale ale threads, I decided to make an "All-American" citra pale. If you are wondering why I decided not to dry hop in a secondary, well, I just don't see the need to. I'd reference some of the many more "controversial" threads on this site about the...
