Time in bottle at room temp?

People usually recommend 2-3 weeks in bottles. Just helps mellow out flavors. However on my first brew I cheated at 1 week and loved the results so much only 15 beers made it till 2 weeks!

    Douglass Brew Log

So the other forums I have been on (not beer related but other hobbies) have a section for project logs. It is a great way to keep track of the work you are doing, as well as get inspiration for work of your own. Since I couldn't find a section here that seemed to fit the bill, I figured I would...

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

Bottling today. Going to start second batch this weekend. Def was flying by the seat of my pants this first time through. Excited for the second batch so I can get things right that I screwed up.

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

Oh very nice. I did their Yellow Brick Road hefeweizen. Very excited for it. I saw that they have the brew class. Don't know that I want to go tho, I would rather learn by doing. Probably going by tomorrow to pick up another kit and some stuff I need (bottles and funnel). I like the idea of...

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

So bubbling has stopped and has moved into conditioning. I have it in the glass carboy right now. I don't really want to deal with racking it to a secondary fermentation bucket, especially because all I have is a 6 gal. plastic bucket. I figure for the first brew I'll just keep it in the carboy...

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

I go to Culver City Home Brewing Supply. +++Update+++ bubbles in the carboy!

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

So got the beer in the carboy. It was an enlightening experience to say the least. There are so many things that I wish I did differently and want to do better next time. For one thing, I will have a friend there to help the whole time next time. Just too much stuff to juggle all at once...

    DouglassBrewer's First Brew Day

Just starting sanitizing. Getting clean water for various tasks and stuff. Will fill in more as it happens and as I have down time. +++Update+++ So also realized the pots that I got are not aluminum, but stainless steel. Heard that isn't the best for heat conduction but great for longevity...

    Picking a Kit

Haha that sounds like a challenge to me! Well I may end up doing the brew in the next few days, rain/shine or sickness. Just looking at all the gear gets me stoked!

    Picking a Kit

We have a basic gas range in our apartment. However one of them is on gas-steriods or something and goes up to about 200% of what the other ranges do. I plan on using that one for heating my water. The first kit I was given is extract but also has some grains to use (guessing partial grain brew...

    Picking a Kit

Well Christmas has come and gone and here is the result: I got the kit I mentioned in my previous posts! But my family had to return one of my other gifts (something they found out I already had) so they went back and threw in a bunch of add-ons that really filled out the kit nicely. Stirring...

    Picking a Kit

@Patirck: I'm not saying I disagree with you. I know I could put together a package that is exactly what I need for the lowest price. But the kit gets me pretty darn close (so I only need 1 extra thing). And if it is going to be a Christmas present, I would rather make it easier on everyone...

    Picking a Kit

Ok so I'm asking for the kit I linked earlier. If I'm correct, then the only thing I have to add is a brew-pot. I'm just going to ask for a 5gal aluminum pot to start with.

    Picking a Kit

What really bothers me is that every kit is without a pot! Why on earth would they do that? Since it is for Christmas, I think I will just ask for the local "2nd Tier" kit. Grandpa is most likely to get it for me and I don't want to have him dealing with all the crap in a separate list. Then I...

    Picking a Kit

@NewBrewB: Well I am a college student, so it isn't that I have tons of money to throw around. The convenience of the kit is that I can just put it on the Christmas list and be fairly certain that I will get it. Giving the fam a laundry list of stuff is a bit different and I don't really like...

    Picking a Kit

Awesome points guys. I live near USC in downtown LA. Does anyone know of a good location to buy equipment from (either online or a place I could drive to) that has a good online site that I could do pricing on? I would like to do as you guys suggest and write out a list of exactly what I need to...

    Picking a Kit

Hey everyone, just going through the final steps of finalizing what I want to buy to get started brewing and was looking for some advice: As of now I was planning on getting the middle kit from this store: Culver City Home Brewing Supply. However I have seen quite a few websites that I could...

    New Brewer Gathering Resources

This gave me a laugh because it was actually exactly what made me think of it. But I play Terran so none of that pylon nonsense. ;)

    New Brewer Gathering Resources

Ah all good things come to those who wait. I would love to keg my own beer. But for this lowly poor college student, it may be quite some time before that rolls around. I dream of carving my own tap heads for each beer I make. I say take the first brew in stride and take it from there!

    New Brewer Gathering Resources

Hey everyone, I'm looking into starting up a homebrew set up pretty soon. I have been doing lots of reading trying to decide which kit to buy. Right now I am eyeballing the http://www.brewsupply.com/Merchandise/index.html#equipkits, the 2nd one that costs $120. I talked to the guy in the...
