    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be racking a leavenworth eightmile alt into the secondary today and making a starter for tomorrow. Tomorrow, I'm brewing a Tripel IPA.

If you could choose ONLY 3 hop varieties EVER, what would they be?

Mosaic: Good substitute for amarillo, cascade, simcoe or any other grapefruit citrusy hop EKG: I would use this for all stouts, porters or english ales. Could also be used in american ales German Hallertau Tradition: This would keep me covered as far as most german ales that I brew

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

if the brewersfriend calculator is telling me that I will get a FG of about 1.018, do you guys think I could/will acheive a lower abv due to using the corn sugar? I don't believe that brewersfriend accounts for the fermentability of the grains/ingredients.

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

Alright, here's the final recipe, I think I'm done making changes. I added 1/8 ounce of coriander to the recipe. I think it will help balance out and give some complexity to the bitterness of the hops. I also scrapped the carapils and I'm adding a full 2lbs of corn sugar. Brew Method: Partial...

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

Well I just ordered wlp500 (it had a lower temp range of 65-72 vs 68-78 for wlp550), and I also ordered 2oz of mosaic hops from rebelbrewer (they had the cheapest shipping for a small order like this). Hopefully it gets here by Saturday so that I can brew this weekend. I had received the grains...

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am going to swap out the late addittion chinook hops, replace them with mosaic, and then do a dry hop with an ounce of each pellet chinook and mosaic. I'll save the chinook leaf hops for a pale ale dry hop this spring. One other concern of mine was the yeast...

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

Here is the updated recipe. I'm thinking about bringing down the IBUs from what I put in the original recipe. Also, from what I'm reading online, it seems like a lot of people have either a love or hate relationship with Chinook hops. This made me a little nervous about using so much of them in...

    What to buy....

They're homebrewers as well, but not as serious about it as I am. I would stick with 3 gallon boils on the stove and a partial mash method before I invest in a burner and wort chiller in order to do 5 gallon boils. I feel that getting better temp control first would initially make your beer...

    What to buy....

Do you already have a fridge for temp control during fermentation? I'd get one myself, but my roommates wouldn't like me running up the electricity bill just to brew beer.

    Clearer beer?

Also try using a hop bag (if you aren't already) rather than dumping them in the boil, and use a secondary. The clearest beer I've made I believe got clear because I left it in the secondary for longer that I usually would, and also I let it stay in the bottle longer than I usually would. For...

Can you Brew It recipe for Fish Brewing Leavenworth Eight Mile Alt

I just ordered the ingredients for a partial mash version scaled down to 5 gallons. I needed a good spring time beer while I wait for my Tripel to condition. I changed up the hop schedule a bit just to make it simpler and also I used carafa III instead of II. I remember in the podcast, they said...

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

I'd still consider myself a beginner and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm looking for anyone's thoughts or seal of approval on a Tripel IPA recipe I put together myself. I had Piraat a few times and loved it, so that's what inspired me to brew a Tripel IPA. This beer isn't a clone though...

Do you use a secondary fermenter

The main reasons to use a secondary from what I understand is for clarity and to reduce any off flavor that could be created from leaving the beer on top of yeast for so long. Personally use a secondary for every beer except for belgian whites. The main reason I do it is just for clarity and...

Citrus Wheat - recipe (please review)

Personally, I would still go with a half pound. I used to order from Northernbrewer, but I stopped because they only shipped whole pounds, then I started using midwest supplies, but they only do half pounds. My last recipe and from now on, I plan on ordering from austin homebrew supply which...

Citrus Wheat - recipe (please review)

I'd skip the lemon, and add sweet orange peel if you really want it to be more like blue moon which I feel like is more of an orange flavor than lemon. Maybe even cut the coriander back to .5oz or less. That said, this looks more like a hybrid wheat beer anyway. Doesn't seem like a lot of...

    BrewersFriend

I'm a new brewer and I also like brewer's friend. It is a nice balance between simplicity and having flexible features for entering recipes. I haven't made the commitment to it yet and got the "paid" version but I'm seriously considering it and may make the purchase soon. Are there any other...

    Belgium white

I just ordered supplies and I will be brewing the recipe below next week. It's a partial mash recipe. If you wanted to make it more hoegoarden like, I'd say drop the stryian and tradition hops, aromatic, crystal, flaked oats and sweet orange peel. Add a pound of white wheat, use an ounce of...

Rye IPA - First partial mash, first self-made recipe

I just cracked on of these bad boys open and it's pretty good. I typically open one bottle at 1 week, 1 bottle after 2 weeks, then I put a 6 pack in the fridge for a week and then really start to dig in to the beer after 3 weeks. One note on dry hopping.....I dry hopped with 2oz of leaf hops...

Another "how bad did I screw up" question

Thanks. I took a look at the fermentor (6 gallon glass) this morning, and it was bubbling away with a dark brown foam on top. Hopefully all is well.

Another "how bad did I screw up" question

the unboiled wort, the runoff from the grain bag is my main concern. I read about some infection, "lacto" that can come from unboiled grains or even grain dust getting in your fermentor. If I mashed at 155, would that have been enough to kill lacto? And doesn't boiling kind of "boil off" any off...
