OK so don't secondary ferment! But now What?

Just bought a filter because I'm sick of it. I know bending the dip tube or making a floating one will help. I will see how I like the filter.

    My first homebrew problem

From the first pic it was obvious that your fermentation was finished. Lots of yeast in that jug. You will get a 8 or 9pack instead of a 12pack though.

    My first homebrew problem

Yes this is bad. You have already fermented this beer and shaking it will oxidize it. Only shake before fermentation never after.

    recirculating wort during mashing

I let the mash rest for the normal 60 to 90 mins and then I will hook up the pump to vorlauf for an additional 30 or so minutes. I need a valve, thermometer, false bottom and natural gas hookup in order to switch to direct fire mash. Once that is done, I plan on moving to recirculating the whole...

    Used bottles

If I'm going on one of my regular macro brewery binges, and I know I need bottles, I will buy quarts of bud or bush with the large twist caps. I have never had one of them fail when I recap with the same cap.

OK so don't secondary ferment! But now What?

I have found that the curve at the bottom of your carboy will make the very center have a lot less trub. You should be able to just hold it steady right above trub line.

    What's your next brew? Why?

Brewing 10 gallons of blonde ale to keg for a friends wedding.

    Best compliment you've received?

I lagered a Pilsner and wild mustang grape must together. It came out very sour, tart, fruity, etc. I didn't like it so I gave a lot away. Shortly found out that several people have said its the best sour they have ever had. I'm not convinced, but will certainly try to repeat this season. It is...

    Confession Time

I too stuck my arm in cool wort to unclog a valve. One of my favorite batches. Didn't tell anyone who tried it of course.

Gypsum and Calcium Chloride additions help

Its pretty much and IPA (since i add more hops than the Pale Ale recipe calls for), and i am going with the only two additions that the brewer said they use. Since I use the same water the brewer does, I don't think I can miss this one once I get the calculator working. Thanks

Gypsum and Calcium Chloride additions help

well, never mind. I found a post from 12/24/15 from someone who lives close to me with a water profile. I will use the calculator online now. As i didnt have a profile, I was hoping for a general reply of; this much gypsum will bring ph of one gallon down to this much kind of thing. I got this i...

    Christmas money opinions

I was thinking about this as well. But, I decided to go with a 10 gallon recipe of an IPA that has more hops than I have ever used. It was almost $100. I then got a 3 way gas manifold, and my money seemed to go away very quickly after more hose and a valve. I like the way my LHBS grinds though...

Gypsum and Calcium Chloride additions help

I am brewing a oatmeal pale ale clone from a local brewery who supplied their recipe to my LHBS. I contacted the brewery and asked what they do to the local tap water when they brew this beer. They said that they add Gypsum and Calcium Chloride to bring the PH down to 5.3. I share the same...

Does anyone else ignore their water?

I started brewing Octoberfests, stouts, IPAs and what not and was ignoring my water and they tasted great. I tried a blonde ale and the resulting taste from the yeast reacting with the chlorine was so bad that I started adding camden which made a night and day difference. My city water has a...

Almost Ready For First BIAB But Need Help

Don't worry if you boil off too much, because you can add more water at the end. Just make sure you don't add hops to early like others have said.

    Igloo cooler mod

I did something similar last month. I was thinking about a rims setup, but I don't care much about step mashing, and the loss of temp during re-circulation doesn't seem to be a concern. If I move to a stainless mash tun that doesn't hold temps well I would need the rims tube...
