    Free Funnel Filter

    1) It wasn't a mercury based thermometer 2) The glass with the liquid didn't break, only the casing which allowed some of the steel pellets to fall in as well...another reason why the strainer was so important.

    Free Funnel Filter

I just recently bought a funnel with a strainer to trasnfer my wort from the BP to the carboy. I had the exact same problem. A LOT of trub that completely clogged the strainer. I ended up just pushing the trub back and forth on top of the strainer to get it out of the way for the wort to fall...

    8-Bit Pale Ale

I got my MS from Kansas State University (in Manhattan, KS). I now live in Colorado and have NO access to Tallgrass beers :( I recently did a trade with someone to get the Velvet Rooster (another can with awesome packaging) and will probably have to do the same for this 8-bit. I really can't...

You know you're a home brewer when?

inorite! It's really much cooler in there than any other place in the house so when I need to move my fermenters from the guest bathtub it makes me cry a little inside. You know you might be a homebrewer when you would seriously consider wearing a cologne that smelled like fresh...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you get a tad annoyed because SWMBO says you need to do something about moving your Brew Room because you need to use it as a "Spare Bedroom"...or something like that.

    Question about carbonation

I believe that should be fine. Remember to give it around 2-3 weeks to carbonate fully.

    Cross-Contamination

Can't really see any reason why there would be a problem as long as you are cleaning and sanitizing everything properly. If you think about it, using the same equipment to brew a beer after brewing another beer shouldn't yield different results than brewing beer after fermenting wine all on the...

Bourbon Chocolate Stout Extract Recipe Feedback?

Thanks for the input, I will definitely take it into consideration. The main reason I wanted to add in some extra fermentables is because I wanted the final %ABV to be a tad higher. The projected OG is supposed to be 1.042-1.046 and the projected FG is supposed to be 1.010-1.012 (max ABV of...

    Is This Normal? (Photos)

It looks fine. If this is indeed a lager, shouldn't it actually...well...lager? As in sit for awhile? I haven't brewed any lagers as of yet but I thought that is how it went. Regardless, letting it sit for awhile longer will probably be a big benefit. I always tell people, the hardest...

Whats the risk with taking my lid off?

You risk outside contaminants getting into your brew but other than that there isn't much to worry about. Make sure you clean and sanitize everything that comes in contact with the wort and try not to leave the lid off for extended periods of time. Other than that, you should be good to go...

Bourbon Chocolate Stout Extract Recipe Feedback?

So I got the Groupon deal from Midwest Supplies and decided to pick up their Irish Stout recipe kit. I have yet to brew a stout so I am excited to get my feet wet with it. I decided to do some edits to the basic recipe and wanted some feedback. The original recipe was: 4oz Chocolate Malt...
