Never should have started this "hobby"

Yeah, I have pretty much managed to keep quite a stock going now. I try and brew at least 10 gallons a month. Still can't really stand any of the wheat beers. Just tried my 1st lager and it is pretty tasty.

    Cherries in the Snow ?

Thanks to everyone who replied. I left the cherries in a grain bag during primary and took them out when I racked into carboy. I tried tasting the beer again right before bottling and it does have a cherry flavor, I just think that it lacks the tartness of the sour cherries like you said...

    Cherries in the Snow ?

Not a bad idea, thank you

    Cherries in the Snow ?

I don't think much flavor would be boiled away because the temperature drops in less than 5 seconds and it is what the recipe called for, also the author makes it out like this was one of his most favored recipes. I wish I could find someone who has tried it with both sweet and sour cherries in...

    Cherries in the Snow ?

I take it not many people have tried this recipe

    Cherries in the Snow ?

That is a good idea I hadn't thought about using campden with beer. But, I am hoping that I can figure out what is making the beer so bland as the only two things I did not follow out of the recipe were using sweet instead of sour cherries and the recipe did not call for removing pits, but I...

    Cherries in the Snow ?

Yes the recipe called for adding it to the boil, and this is 10lbs of cherries with hops and LME, you would think this would have huge cherry flavor. Yeah I was under the impression that aging would just mellow it out too, not make it more flavorful, so I am assuming that there just must be a...

    Cherries in the Snow ?

De-stemmed and de-pitted by hand 10lbs of cherries :) lot of time, not much fun, think hack and slash horror film, stained a good shirt with cherry juice. Then placed cherries in sanitized bowl and crushed with a potato masher to get juice, put cherries in grain bags which went into boiling...

    Cherries in the Snow ?

Has anyone tried the "Cherries in the Snow" recipe from the Complete joy of Homebrewing book? My question is if you did the recipe did you use the sour cherries it requested or just any cherries you could get. I could only get sweet cherries and I tasted it when I racked it into secondary...

    Brew on premises?

We have one here in Washington state located in a city called Edmonds (17mi N of Seattle). I have walked by the shop but never gone in, I spoke to our licensing board and they said they operate under a microbrew lic. I never thought I would go to one but I like the idea of brewing large...

    Lame idea Thread

Yeah I was going to try the Kilyu recipe and went into my local homebrew shop and the guy just talked me into making some wine as it is basically fruit, sugar, water, and yeast. So I bought a bunch of ripe honeydew melons and started a batch of that along side of some more beer. I always saw...

    Water: Tap vs. Bottle

I agree with a lot of what they are saying, I have tasted a lot of bottled water brands that taste horrible. But, the brand I do like does taste a heck of a lot better than tap water. I don't really care if it is coming from a municipal source if they are filtering it more and then reselling...

    Lame idea Thread

I guess I am just feeling adventurous, if no one ever tried anything we would not have such a wide variety of good beers, wines, and "other". I did not realize what I was talking about was hooch or pruno and that it was such a topic of disdain or I would have never posted it. But hey for every...

I am already doing that too.

Sounds like if someone were trying to do what I am talking about then maybe they should just get a distiller kit and make liquor. :) But that is just someone else.

LMAO, oh boy, I couldn't make it through more than a page of some of the other threads, I am now really suprised I didn't get flogged with a cat of nines. I guess I did not make it out enough in college enough to know what hooch and pruno were. BTW, I am not a 16 year old trying to brew...

Thank you for being kind, I won't get offended because I already know some people are going to take this thread the wrong way. And this is not a recipe I would use to replace my 2 favorites right now. Is there anything inexpensive that could be used in place of LME/DME for the conversion...

    Lame idea Thread

Ok, this is basically going to get me flamed, but I just can't get the thought out of my head. If we are not making an all grain recipe then we are using DME or LME for base flavoring and sugar to turn into alcohol. So............what if I just used 5 gallons of water and a bunch of...
