    Solved my oxidation woes

Are you talking "Sodium Metabisulfite" as an antioxidant? I think I remember reading a while back 1 of your post about trying this. So it is working for you then?

Mash pH Bru'n Water vs Brewers Friend

Oh and I forgot, brunwater was dead on my last brew. It told me 2 ml of lactic would bring the pH to 5.19. Brewersfriend said the pH would be 5.38. brunwater had been off just like you the last couples batch's so I didn't believe it this time, so I added the 2 ml lactic and guess what.... pH...

Mash pH Bru'n Water vs Brewers Friend

I have found all the mash predictors to be very close 1 time and then be off next. It you take the time to do a mini mash of say 15-20 grams of malt at least it gives you a starting point so you don't hopefully have the surprise you just had. I do it if I can find the time and it helps. I bought...

    BrewCipher opinions

I use it along with Beersmith , Brun'water, and sometimes use Brewersfriend also if I find the time. I like to keep notes on which software comes close to my actual mash pH. Beersmith doesn't do mash pH predictions( next version maybe? ) but the others do. It's surprising how close 1 of them...

Can you go into a little more detail on this, l have heard of people using ascorbic acid as an antioxidant. How strong of a solution does 1 use.

Cigar City maduro oatmeal brown clone attempt

I am brewing this today with a few adjustments, I replaced the flaked oats with golden naked oats and using Wyeast 1318 because it is what I have at the moment.

    Do you condition your grain?

I condition my base grains which is usually a high percentage of my grist. Then I grind the last pound or 2 not conditioned to make sure there is no moisture left in the rollers. I brew in a confined area and it helps keep the dust down pretty well. I use 2% water and distribute evenly inside a...

Need advice on process, bottling directly from vessel used for dry hopping.

Sure, I will try. After everything is complete.. wort transfer, oxygenation etc. I wrap the elastic opening of the paint strainer bag around the top of the bucket. The bottom of the paint strainer bag does kind of float on top of the wort. I have a 12" stainless steel thermowell inserted into my...

Need advice on process, bottling directly from vessel used for dry hopping.

Here is what I do and for me it has had pretty good success. I ferment right in the bottling bucket. I use something I bought from Williamsbrewing I use on the back of the spigot http://www.williamsbrewing.com/INVERT-TUBE-BACKNUT-P179.aspx I attach a 5 gallon paint strainer inside the...

    Rahr 2 row

Yes I learned my lesson, small test mash like you always suggest so no more surprises. The only change to this IPA was the 2 row and 2 or maybe 3 oz less of acid malt that I should have added. Thanks

    Rahr 2 row

Yes I was surprised at the dates on the grains also but the 1 beer I made so far with it was pretty good. I'm just getting into this part of brewing so I don't know if this is normal for the age of grain or not. I don't know if the higher pH caused it but it was a very hoppy IPA and it just...
