    Kenmore 8.8 Keezer Bar

    Looks awesome! Congrats.

    Keezer advice (Kenmore 8.8)

Thanks for all the great info on this thread, folks. I'm considering the Kenmore 8.8 ft3 as well, but I use pin-lock kegs, which are ½" wider in diameter. Is there an inch of wiggle-room around all the kegs when all 4 of your ball-locks are on the floor? Thanks. Either way, I'll...

brewing ten gallons with 6 gallons boil pot

I normally get around 80% eff, and when I did a 3/6 gal partial boil I got 50% eff.

brewing ten gallons with 6 gallons boil pot

Well, you won't get the same hop utilization, but other than that there's no reason you shouldn't get good beer. It'll just be way less cost-effective.

brewing ten gallons with 6 gallons boil pot

Yeah, but that's poor efficiency. Cause you're mashing to get ~7 gal at ~1.060 preboil grav, when you could be mashing to runoff 10 gal at 1.030 to make the same OG beer with a full boil. See what I mean?

    What am I making?

+1 APA I did the same thing Monday night with ingredients I had laying around. Brewed an American Brown Ale. I'll post it in a bit.

How much to fill up the keg

I have a check valve in line. Also, there's no manifold or other kegs on that tank. Should be good. Thanks Yooper.

How much to fill up the keg

Aside from potentially getting beer backed up the gas line, is there any other negative to having the beer up past the gas inlet diptube? I racked my IPA over to a corny last night, and thought I was just below the gas diptube, but then when I put it on the CO2, I heard bubbling. Will it...

Well certainly looks like ill have plenty of time to homebrew!

*******! We've been getting slammed out here in the East, too. I feel your pain, man. When I read your headline, I thought you were gonna say you lost your job. Glad you didn't.

    New to the forum, Logo/Label?

If you figure out a way to make it competitively priced, you could have a nice lil side business.

So I got tired of cleaning bottles.

I think it's ironic that the book your neice bought you is one that was around back then. :) Welcome back, man. Looking forward to hearing about your new brews!

Sanitizing and cleaning with hard water

If yours is cloudy and you're concerned, then take a small sample and dip a pH strip in it to see where it falls in the scale. Needs a pH of 3.0 or less to be effective, I believe.

    Best Beer Bar in NYC?

Agreed with the three JadeMonkey posted. You could also check out: The Dead Poet (upper west side) Rattle N Hum (near Empire St Bldg) Hop Devil Grille (East side -- near Tompkins Sq Park) Heartland Brewery (there's 6 or 7 of them--good food and good microbrew) d.b.a. (lower east side)...

    Challenger Disaster 25th Anniversary

Well written! It's a wonderful speech. Personally, I would make one small change. I would change the line "We gather too to celebrate..." to "We also gather to celebrate...". In type, the words suss themselves out, but in speech it might seem muddled. Just my $0.02. Again, WELL DONE...

    DFH Score!

I bought both of mine from a local metal scrapyard. We all know those kegs were probably "stolen" from a liquor store or whatever, but I got them at a point where they were about to be crushed. So I was saving it, not stealing it. However, I don't have a problem with leaving a deposit and...

    A quick bottling question

Yeah man, no problem. Jamil mentioned it on a Brewstrong episode. They also mentioned how SN doesn't play keepaway from the consumer with their "real" yeast strain. So if you want to make an agar plate, you can harvest SN's yeast straight outta the bottle, grow it up, and brew with it.

    A quick bottling question

Most micro- and pro-brewers filter the yeast out of the beer and then force carb the beer with CO2 (much like we homebrewers do when we keg--although some filter, some don't). Other micro- and pro-brewers bottle condition their beer, but what they do is they filter out all the yeast, then mix...
