Cider Noob - Looking for Advise

Forgive my ignorance, and not to hijack the thread, but wouldn't the notty just consume the 1 gal of cider? Or do you potassium sorbate it and force carb it?

Cider Noob - Looking for Advise

Sounds amazing ... I did a batch just like this with washed US05. It fermented super clean and dry. I bottle conditioned with a can of frozen apple juice. The batch went VERY fast, and my neighbor offered to BUY me another fermenter just to brew cider for him continuously. It catches up with you...

Brewin Apfelwein On Yeast Cake - Hop Residue

I brewed a cider with fresh pressed cider and about a cup of washed US05. It finished very dry and delicious, and I primed the 5gal batch with a can of frozen concentrated AJ. I did not campden the batch, but I did add pectic enZyme and yeast nutrient. My krausen came shooting out of my 6.5gal...

Citra Hops....did I miss them already?

I got an email yesterday morning about my makingbeerisfun order. They ran out of amarillo and offered to substitute other hops for it and give me a 10% discount. I opted for a refund of the amarillo price and just cross my fingers that my citra arrives. I do need more cascade but i didnt think...

Citra Hops....did I miss them already?

I ordered last Wednesday and haven't received confirmation yet. I really hope I get them before the weekend, I have a citrus hop burst planned for Friday, I may have to change out to a cream ale if they don't arrive. I live in NJ so USPS is 1 day here usually. I ordered a lb each of citra and...

    White house beer

My only reasons for secondary are 1) to free up a primary fermenter and 2) I'm rather clumsy when it comes to the trub cake while racking so the less of it there is the clearer my beer gets. Not that I really care about clarity.

    Pacific Gem hops???

I saw this at my lhbs the other day. I couldn't get Citra and they tried to sub me some simcoe (which I already had at home) or the bag of pacific gem they had just gotten from their purveyor. It smelled beautiful in the Mylar bag I shoulda grabbed some.

Yeast & Starter Wort after Hurricane Power Loss

Hurricane Sandy did a real number on my area of NJ. I'm one of the lucky ones, with no real losses other than 6 days without power and 20 lbs of bluefin tuna steaks that were in my freezer. I am coming back on line tonight. My worries are this: Is my yeasts and start wort still good? or...

    Electric stove issues

Also you can try bridging the pot between multiple burners....I had two burners on HIGH for 2.5 hours and it melted my burner wires and sockets however.

    Electric stove issues

I had the same problems. I ended up burning up all the burners on my stove, forcing me to upgrade from the pos coils to a ceramic hybrid induction. I am not allowed to brew inside anymore, courtesy of SWMBO only on the propane burner. Take it from me, get a cheap turkey fryer burner you won't...
