What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I was like you once ... I said the same things. I don't like dogfish 60 anymore because I find it too malty. The bitch IPA is probably flying dog, which is pretty decent if I recall. I don't like overly bittered iPas still but I love HOPPY beers. Grapefruit puke sounds damned good !

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I think the Sam Adams pale ale (not Boston pale just the pale) is rather good...it's EKG and Fuggles. I cloned it a couple times it came out quite good ...their harvest beer is gross though, really rather boring.

How bad was your first home brew?

My friend is a total brewing disaster. He can't seem to follow instructions while brewing, especially if he's a little tipsy. He complained that his first brew was watered down (NB Irish red kit), But didn't realize it was watered down because he left 2" of malt extract in the bottle "I...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Rogue dead guy ale at a Buffalo Wild Wings .. It was nearly flat and dull. I don't know if it was flat and stale but it sure tasted like it, and ill be damned if I ever order one again. Since I've started home brewing and appreciate hops more even yeungling is tasteless(and overly mAlty) to me

How bad was your first home brew?

You reminded me!! My first boil was a full boil and it took 2 hours to cool down. I immediately built an immersion chiller for my second batch. My second batch it took so long with my coil electric stove cooktop on HIGH that the burners all fried the wiring, and hot break boilover with burned...

How bad was your first home brew?

My first beer was a hefeweizen that came out Amazing well. I did a few more extracts before switching to all grain. My worst beer was an ESB that tasted good but eventually over carbonated, I think due to poor mixing of the priming solution. I had a similar problem much later with the whitehouse...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Follow the original recipe exActly. Adjuncts like rice aren't necessary IMO unless you are cloning BMC beers. 2 row does an awesome job.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

This beer will always be in my house. It's delicious. I will be dry hopping every batch in the future. I did aside by side of the plain Jane version (exact original recipe) versus the cascade dry hopped version and the dry hopped was awesome. The original is a 10/10, with a dry hop it's a 12/10.

    Hefeweizen flavor/aroma hops

After plugging into beersmith I realized 1pz magnum would give me 54ibu, certainly out of style. Cutting that back to .5oz. Still debating in my head about an aroma hop addition vs traditional style.

Cost of AG vs LME vs DME in bulk

my LHBS deals in bulk liquid extracts, and they are fresh and cheap. They sell them in quart containers, which is 6lbs i believe, in 1lb increments. They get $3 per lb for the extracts, and they get $2/lb for malts ($1.50/lb for briesse 2 row) ... so going all grain wasnt really that big of a...

    Hefeweizen flavor/aroma hops

I'm brewing a hef this weekend. My buddy fermented a Northern brewer bavarian hef kit at my house with the wyeast 3068, and I'm taking his cake when he bottles and going to reuse it. My grain bill: 6lb 2 row 4lb wheat 1/2lb rice hulls 1oz magnum 14%aa 60 mins (possibly considering a...

    Mashing Wheat, Dough In etc.

This weekend I'm planning on doing my first AG wheat beer. I've done an extract hefe before, but since going AG i've been on a pale ale kick for the last 15 batches or so, and I'm looking for some variety. I'm a lazy batch sparger. i heat my strike water, pour it into the preheated igloo, then...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I've brewed this twice now from AG and I love it. The first batch went so fast it was ridiculous. I use s05 with a starter, and follow the recipe exactly except for adding gypsum. This last batch I dry hopped with 1oz cascade and it really kicked this beer up a notch. I love centennial and...

Citra Hops....did I miss them already?

if i can procure a couple more lbs of it before it's all gone for the year I will certainly get a zombie dust going... my LHBS has a contract for 400lbs of the stuff and they havent gotten any

Perfect small pot for starters? Link within...

I use third/fourth runnings from my spent grains for starter. Boil them down to 1.040 (refractometer helps tremendously with this) and I freeze them in qt Chinese soup containers. Free starter wort. DME just seems so damned expensive and sticky.

Windsor Nottingham yeast. I've never used it but I've read it's similar to US05+ US04.
