    Window Tinting on Carboy

Spray on was what I was actually considering, but didn't mention that because either has its merits. Sent from my PantechP8010 using Home Brew mobile app

    Window Tinting on Carboy

I was hoping more people would say something along the lines of "This is a good idea because..." or "This is a bad idea because..." I mean, it's cool if you want to say how you keep your beer light-free, but my point was that I'm a space case am known for getting... uh... what was I saying?

    Window Tinting on Carboy

I usually do basement with a hoodie around it. Getting a bit cold down there, however. Mid 40's. Sent from my PantechP8010 using Home Brew mobile app

    Window Tinting on Carboy

Well it states on the website that it blocks 99% of UV light. I think it should up consistency in general. Most of the process takes place in white plastic buckets, but as I said, I usually have something covering it, it would just be for the case that my brain failed. I think.... I may have a...

    Window Tinting on Carboy

The purpose of the tint is more for when I forget those things. Usually I remember, but it doesn't take too much sun light to have an effect. Sent from my PantechP8010 using Home Brew mobile app

    Window Tinting on Carboy

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you knew of any good reason why I shouldn't apply some kind of UV-blocking tint to the outside of my glass carboys. I want something that allows a fair amount of light through so I know how far down to hold my syphon, etc. but I've just had a bit of a scare...

Is my batch going to be terrible?

I should probably mention I ended up adding a gallon of water to the fermentor with some dme in it (I forgot exactly how much, I have it in my book, but I have moved so I have to find that) in order to lower the sugar %. As I said, I screwed up my sugar volume to weight conversion.

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

I gotcha. I gotcha. Sorry about that. By the way, I have not had time to try this experiment yet, with the semester starting and going nuts and all. I will get around to it before long, though. I will definitely shorten my extraction time, however.

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

NO2? Nitrogen dioxide? I have no access to it, but it doesn't seem like it would be used for food grade extractions, I wouldn't think.

Local Brew Supply House in Pittsburgh?

Nittany Valley True Value (also known as Nittany Valley Feed and Hardware) is actually in the process of expanding. He can order pretty much anything you'd want, from what I can tell. $19.99 for a pound of centennial hops. A little more than Hops Direct, but no shipping included. It takes me <20...

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

Chew on some hops that haven't been boiled. They're pretty bitter, man.

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

I would think that since humulone is soluble in ethanol, you'd have very high concentrations of preisonerized humulone and other alpha acids. They, too, are very bitter like iso-alpha acids.

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

Wait... when you say ", MI" what part of MI do you mean? When I say that I mean....... I am a Michigan fan, not a PSU fan despite that grad school choice.... Despite all that... I can do this... Maybe not the HPLC... but maybe I can drive to undergrad and do all that. The HPLC's are pretty...

Holy moly! State College PA?! THAT'S WHERE I AM! I will respond more later. I just got excited when I noticed that.

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

I am going to revise my experiment some. I posted too early. I have decided to try to do something with bittering, aroma, flavor, and maybe even doing an extraction of double the amount and adding it continuously over the end of the boil. The issue I see with that is that the alpha acids will be...

    Experiment - Ethanol humulone extraction

So I have done a search and a lot of the people I've seen posting about hop extracts seem to be trying to extract hop flavors and aromas from their hops to add to their beer. While I personally wouldn't want to dump a bunch of grain alcohol into my fermented beer, I completely understand...

Is my batch going to be terrible?

Thank you! Hey, the pound of chocolate malt and the pound of Crystal 120L... was because the site I ordered from didn't allow me to go under a pound of each ingredient. I have since come to realize those things aren't usually used in those quantities. But like I said, I experiment. It's how I...
