BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Ok, so in your opinion the 12v (or 24v) load that’s exposed outside the panel via the valves is safe enough that it’s ok for the valves to remain powered in an E-Stop? In that case I’d probably stick with the 12v supply. I think all of the valves I'm looking at accept 9v-24v, so I can always...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Thanks for the feedback BrunDog. I'll rough out the parts in the panel once they arrive; if I'm feeling like things are a bit tight I'm glad to know that the power relay is probably unnecessary. Your response regarding the E-Stop and DC power configuration raises another couple of questions: in...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Courtesy of @BrunDog, I modified the 50A wiring diagram on the Brucontrol website to reflect my anticipated modifications: using relays instead of SSRs for handling all of the non-element switching, adding a couple of pressure sensors to measure volumes, and adding a power select relay to run...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Thanks Brundog. To start, is there a free and/or easy piece of software for drawing wiring diagrams? The 50 amp diagram on the brucontrol website is a great reference, but I want to diagram the exact wiring I’ll be doing, both to let the experts here on hbt review, and for my own reference.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Hi all, Some amazing stuff in this thread! I'm planning to get back into brewing after a 4 year hiatus (kids, life, etc.). I was initially planning to build a simple EBIAB kettle/controller by upgrading my 120v RIMS PID enclosure with 240v contactors and wiring, but then I saw this thread and...

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

I don't have a BIAC (I want one though!), but what about using the stout tanks racking arm pointed slightly up as your wort return to recirculate the wort while chilling the jacket to make chilling more efficient? This wouldn't address the clogging issue with a heavy hop bill, but I suppose you...

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

Thanks to everyone in this thread for sharing their experiences, particularly MeetsCriteria and Jimmy82. I have a question for MeetsCriteria or anyone else who has a medium BIAC with the Stout Tanks racking arm: what is the minimum amount of liquid left in the cone when using the racking arm...

    Haier Kegerator questions

I have what I believe is that exact Haier Kegerator. I replaced the stock tower with a two tap tower no problem. The nice thing about that kegerator is that you can fit three cornies inside and a 5 lb CO2 tank on the shelf in the back.

    13 - 16 gallon fermenters - what you got?

Because they're actually not much taller than a 6.5 gallon carboy, the large (1/2" ID) auto-siphon works great. Using a hose clamp to switch between kegs without losing siphon, you can fill two kegs super fast. EDIT: just reread the OP regarding transferring under pressure. I've never tried...

    13 - 16 gallon fermenters - what you got?

I was going to post a link to those. I have two and use them frequently for 10 gallon batches. For big beers and/or aggressive yeast you should use a blow off (you do need to drill a hole in the lid), but I've had 10 gallon batches of smaller beers ferment with just an airlock. Pretty fantastic...

New Brewer, I Might Have Gone Overboard

OP- I got my all-grain start using a Mr. Beer LBK as the fermenter and a hybrid of the stove-top all-grain method from this site. Great way to learn the process on a smaller scale. Although, once I saw how long it took to make 2.5 gallons of all-grain beer, and how fast I drank said beer, I...

    Blichmann Natural Gas Burner issue

I use blichmann burners with natural gas all the time and have had no problem getting a vigorous boil with > 10 gallons. It looks like perhaps you don't have enough gas flow: I get bigger jets of flame that are less impacted by airflow. Is your gas on all the way, both from your supply and the...

    WSM Advice

The 18.5 will easily handle that, capacity-wise. Depending on the size of the butts (< 8 lbs each), I'm pretty sure you could fit 3 on each rack. The only problem I've had with the 18.5 is that racks of ribs are sometimes longer than the racks are wide, and I've had to start the ribs with part...

    WSM Advice

With a full ring of charcoal, my 18.5 will hold 225-275 for 12+ hours in moderate (60+) temps. When doing a butt, I usually start early in the morning, get the WSM up to temperature, put on the butt, and go back to sleep. When I wake up 2-3 hours later, it's holding the same temperature. I...
