The $129 simple non AC glycol chiller

@shoo, did your freezer arrive from Japan yet? I'm considering purchasing one from ebay as well; certainly can't beat the price. -Adam

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Yeah, I noticed that when I was putting together my wiring diagram based on the 50A Brucontrol diagram. I changed it on my diagram, but I should have brought it to BrunDog’s attention like you did!

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

As BrunDog stated, you need 6 awg from the input to the contactor and from the contactor to your distribution block. The last post in my build thread has a picture of my wiring, and you can see the 6 awg wire in the bottom right. It is no fun to work with in an enclosure, that is for sure.

    New BruControl Build

Hi @GParkins, Curious if you have any pictures of how you grounded your wire shelves. I'm planning on using a wire shelving unit as you did, and they all seem to come with the same plastic sleeves, isolating each shelf and leg. Some conductive shelf sleeves exist, but they're pretty expensive...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@BrunDog-- I have a couple of questions for you regarding your pressure-based volume measurement: what happens to the volume measurement in the mashtun when grain is added? Does the pressure increase by the weight of the grain or by the total displacement of water+grain? Or something in between...

BrunDog 50A eRig - no HLT for me!

BrunDog, quick question about these (and other) current meters: they will not give you the total current including all 120v devices, right? I.e. my understanding is that the meter will give you 240v current plus the 120v current of anything that runs off the leg that goes through the little...

BrunDog 50A eRig - no HLT for me!

@TexasWine--I believe it's this one. I actually have an extra one (ordered too many things at once and then didn't open the box) that I'd be willing to send you for a couplea bucks. You can PM if you're interested.

Thanks @BrunDog! That 6 awg wire was no fun at all to work with, especially since I’d wired everything else up first. But I got it all in there, even the long run of hot2 through the din mounted current meter.

AC wiring complete and tested. I am happy to report that no magic smoke was released. Now to clean that wiring up a bit and get started on the DC side.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Quick question for @BrunDog, @augiedoggy et al.: as I begin wiring the DC side of my control panel, is it ok to use a common ground for my various DC voltages? I have a 12v power supply, a step-up transformer to run a single 24v accessory, and a 5v power supply to power any 5v items that I deem...

Where are all the magnetic pumps coming from?

This company says they're the manufacturer, but who knows?

    L14-30P using a L6-30 plug - CBS Nano panel

It looks like the Nano has a 120v outlet for the pump. If that is the case, then you must have a neutral, i.e. the adapter from amazon will not work.

    BruControl build planning

Unrelated to my latest question, is it possible for me to change the title of this thread? As I have gathered parts and planned this build, I have ultimately decided to go with a 2-vessel approach, similar to @BrunDog's. Thus, the eBIAB title is a bit misleading.

    BruControl build planning

@GParkins How far is too far? As currently laid out, I’d guess that there will need to be approximately 12-18 inches of wire between the SSRs and the fuses. I could also use 14 awg wire between the SSRs and the fuses instead of 20 awg if that provides sufficient safety margin. Otherwise, I'll...

    BruControl build planning

My e-stop will be wired to kill the main 60a dpst contactor, while maintaining DC power to the Mega/valves, etc. So no AC power should be going to anything except the DC power supply.

    BruControl build planning

Quick question for @BrunDog (or anyone else who knows): is there any reason to not use separate hot lines on the coils for the two element contactors? I.e. use L1 on the coil for the RIMS-element contactor and L2 on the coil for the BK-element contactor? These are 120v-coil DPST contactors, FYI.

    BruControl build planning

Some progress! Finally! Work and family just don't permit much time to work on this. Hmm... Not sure what that means as far as having time to brew once I'm done with this project, but one thing at a time... Finally got all of the components laid out and mounted to the plate in the enclosure...

The $129 simple non AC glycol chiller

Awesome idea. Very interested to see if it works for crash cooling.
