    portable electric mash rims

Hey Steve, I used to brew at CHAOS in Chicago with a RIMS-in-a-toolbox and a plastic mashtun. I used a 120v heating element in the brewershardware tri-clamp RIMS tube. I think Bobby at brewhardware.com and Jaybird at Norcal also offer a RIMS tube that is roughly similar. Let me know if you have...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

EDIT--I am a dumdum. The wiring diagram was not clear to me and I switched the +/- for the 24VDC in. Switched those around and bingo-bango. Outputs ~4V at 240VAC in, and now works as expected with a 300/1024 linear multiplier. I edited my original post to rescind my recommendation of this unit...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I'll double check the signal voltage it's putting out, but it almost acts like it's a 0-250V version that got mislabeled as the 0-300V version or something. Making the linear multiplier 250/1024 results in a voltage reading that pretty closely corresponds with what my other voltmeters say.

DIY/poor man's floating diptube for clear beer

I’m pretty sure the problem is the tubing. Either it’s too heavy and pulling the wrong end of the float down, or it’s too stiff to allow the counterweight in the filter to point down. When the tubing is out of the keg, as in picture 1, there’s no force pulling on the other end of the float and...

Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

In the midst of my first fermentation with Fermentrack, and I just want to say, thanks for putting together such an excellent, useful project! Just look at this sweet, sweet temp control, slowly ramping while staying within .1ºF of the setpoint! :D:mug:

    ferment chamber - space heater...Safe??

Just to close the loop on my question: the 100w space heater—while compact and inexpensive—was much too powerful a heat source for Fermentrack/BrewPi, precisely as @day_trippr predicted. While trying to maintain lager fermentation temps, and even with a slow ramp, Fermentrack had the heater and...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@BrunDog, having a licensing issue and could use help fairly immediately, since I'm planning to brew tomorrow. Thanks.

    New Electric Brewery...

Not sure about that, as it looks to be lower profile than the TC ferrule on my BK, which appears to be just under 1" from the edge of the kettle to the lip of the TC flange. If you can silver solder or find someone to weld this on to your kettle, you should be good.

    Introducing… the Spike FLEX!

Looks awesome! Thanks for the pix, @AF1HomeBrew! Do you think you'll get a chance to fill it soon?

    Introducing… the Spike FLEX!

I totally agree with you except that for me for the bolded part is pretty important. I have committed all of the space to brewing that I can, so if this can indeed fit in my ferm fridge (a medium-to-big if), it's pretty ideal for me. Given that I need a smaller footprint, saving a few bucks is...

    New Electric Brewery...

What kettle and how are you attaching the element? EDIT: I have a Spike 10 gallon kettle with an interior diameter of 13 7/8" with a 1.5" tri-clamp port welded on, and a tri-clamp element very similar to this one. With the added depth from the tri-clamp ferrule, there's a bit less than half an...

    Introducing… the Spike FLEX!

I'm extremely interested in the Flex+ if I can figure out a way to make it fit in my fermentation fridge. I had planned to get a SS Brew Bucket, but the tri-clamps and pressure capability with the Flex is a big win for me.

    Conical or ferm chamber

FYI- the Haier fridge I got also fits buckets, carboys, and even the 7 gallon SS Brew Buckets.

    Automated LODO Build

I have nothing of value to add, but has any HBT username ever been more appropriate than @Overkill? Seriously. Amazing, amazing work.

    Conical or ferm chamber

I went through a similar decision recently--initially I planned to get a conical and a chiller. But when my brew system build went wildly over-budget, I decided to take advantage of the small army of corny kegs I have and ferment in those, a la schematix's thread. They involve their own list of...

    ferment chamber - space heater...Safe??

Thanks for the explanation @day_trippr. I suppose I can always put my 45w heating pad back in there, since my garage is likely to be close to ale temps by the next time I brew an ale anyway...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I use TextMate on a Mac and then copy/paste into BruControl. ^^This. I have the hardest time making the script screen/pane bigger/smaller by dragging on the pane resize handle. The resize handle target seems to be about half a pixel wide, given how hard it is to grab with a trackpad. Also...

    ferment chamber - space heater...Safe??

Forgive me for taking this thread on a bit of a tangent... @day_trippr, as you guessed, the temperature change with the heater on is pretty steep. As I said above, I'm not that concerned with it now--it's running in "Fridge Constant" mode and keeping the temp at +1/-2º F of the setpoint. In your...
