Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

I've got the chamber setup and a temp controller hooked up high and low so I can monitor temp changes for the next few hours.

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

Door is on, mini-fridge fits, time for some stripping... of the weather variety.

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

At this point the only thing left to do is dry/weatherstrip and add some hinges. Ive got two temp controllers so I will be able to monitor different areas at least and I hope to try and take regular measurements on performance. That being said worst case scenario it shouldnt be too hard to...

what to do with extra runoff from my sparge?

Your quickly heading down the road to parti-gyle technique. Check out this link, https://byo.com/mead/item/1963-parti-gyle-brewing-techniques TLDR: You can mash extra volume or multiple times to result in more beer(s)

Final coat of paint is almost done

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

The door flooded with stain, then wiped down. I'm not crazy about hobbit turned out, I'll check in a few hours to see if I like it any better otherwise it'll probably get buffed down with some steel wool and get a coat of Danish oil instead of mahogany mixed with a dash of cherry for a little...

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

The door is set and I've cleaned up a few rough edges and am pepping for stain

Schedules are for losers, today I got the door assembled and it's clamped and strapped to set for a bit.

    Concentrated boil

You could do that, however unless you calculate and brew a "bigger" version of your recipe with a higher OG you'll just end up watering down your product. So yes, you could add water to your batch in the fermentor (boiled and chilled water is highly recommend) however even with planning you are...

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

Progress has been slow this week, largely because it's been hot out here in the Carolina's and working in an open warehouse this week hasn't left much desire to work in my outdoor shop/deck. I have finished the main body and prepped it for painting. I also finished the last cuts of materials...

    buying a brew kit

If you aren't in a rush, I would check Craigslist. I've borderline taken advantage of two people near me who were selling all their gear for an unbelievably low price! Couple that with friends who gave up on brewing and I have tons of bottles and I'm up to 4 bottle cappers now! Would have gotten...

Why is my bottled beer ALWAYS better than my kegged beer?

Also "better" is subjective at best, can you describe the difference? Is it related to carbonation, body, flavor?

Why is my bottled beer ALWAYS better than my kegged beer?

I don't have experience with keg carbing, but it only makes sense to me that you will have a different product/result when you split a batch and add different ingredients to one half. In this case it's priming sugar, which shouldn't affect the flavor much, but will change the ingredients in that...

    Any powder sanitizers?

What's wrong with liquid sanitizer like starsan? Just wondering why you want a powder really.

does anyone not boil priming water/sugar?

I always boil my water before adding the priming sugar. While beer is pretty determined to become its final product, the art of beer making revolves around eliminating risks (primarily for contamination). Can you make a decent batch of beer mixing bottled water and corn sugar, sure, 9/10 times...

What was - or will be - your first "serious" upgrade?

I was lucky to have a stockpot when I started brewing 1 gallon batches, I was lucky to soon borrow a propane burner and immersion wort chiller from friends who no longer brew, and I was also lucky to find a good deal recently on a larger stock pot so I can begin brewing 5 gal batches. My first...

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

The last of today's accomplishments before diner and GoT. I stuffed the last of the insulation, attached the last outside wall and sanded some edges flush. Tomorrow after work I should be ready to paint and figure out how to frame a door efficiently

Much better, I replaced the runner that I botched up on the first attempt and have all these set with a screw in the back and a patina'd old nail in the front, I think that a few more detail pieces like this will help tie the chamber together.

Wow, the difference between proper execution and not is huge...

Fermentation Chamber build, witty title coming soon.

One piece in, I kinda botched the end with the old square nail, but I can sand and touch it up. At least I know to drill a bigger hole on the next two!
