American IPA Green Flash IPA clone

I used a recipe off northern brewer as the base of this recipe. This was only my 4th batch, all of which have been IPA's, and this was by far my best. Even with all the hops used in this recipe, I still don't think it quite matched the bitterness and hop aroma from the actual Green Flash IPA...

    Fermenting for 8 days now?

I usually just let my beers ferment in a primary for 3 to 4 weeks then bottle. I was just curious that this one has been bubbling for so long. I won't mess around with a hydrometer reading until I bottle since I know it will be done by then (it has no choice). The kraussen is still pretty...

    Fermenting for 8 days now?

I'm using a carboy with a blowoff tube, and I was just wondering, is it normal that the blowoff tube is still bubbling every 30 seconds or so? It's been about 8 days of fermentation. It's an IPA that had an OG of about 1.072. I've only used buckets with airlocks before this and the bubbling...

Extremely Watery IPA - Dogfish Head 60min Clone

Even if it's not as much extract as you were hoping, that is plenty to make a good beer. You said it didn't have much fizz, it just sounds like it hasn't fully carbonated yet. My last IPA took a good month to carb right, and it was even better 2 weeks after that. I think the higher gravity may...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

Just an update on the stuck kraussen, when i opened the lid yesterday before giving it a shake, most of the kraussen had now fallen from the surface. It's still not chrystal clear on top, but significantly better. I think just the slight disturbance I gave it when I took out my sample for the...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

Seriously? Should I worry about oxidation or whatever?

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

I have a one ounce hop plug that I am going to put inside a nylon paint strainer bag. I don't see why it would matter whether it was near the bottom or near the top though, as long as it was submerged in the beer. Seems it would have the same affect, and the beer will get mixed when I rack it to...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

I'm hoping it's like an amberish west coast IPA. I used a recipe in one of the books at the brew store that looked pretty good. The gravity readings probably aren't exact as I didn't do adjust it for the temps or anything, just what I saw from the two readings. May be off a few points either...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

My beer has been in the primary for about 10 days. Yesterday I took a sample to check the gravity and it looked like the fermentation went fine as the OG was about 1.072 and the gravity reading yesterday was about 1.018. However, there was still a layer of kraussen, or a yeasty like film...

    Will adding more yeast hurt?

Long story short, I didn't think my dry yeast looked right when I proofed it, then 1 day after pitching, I wasn't seeing any airlock activity, so I gave the bucket a good shake and made sure the lid was on tight but still nothing. So yesterday, the second day, I purchased another pack of...

    4 days and still bubbling...

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been worried and I do plan on leaving it in the fermentor for at least 3 weeks. I have also enjoyed a couple of bottles from my first batch although it still needs another week of carbing. I was really surprised at how easy it was to make a quality beer at home.

    4 days and still bubbling...

My second batch is currently fermenting. It has now been 4 days since fermentation began and the airlock is still bubbling a few times a minute. I don't know exactly what the lagtime was for the airlock to start bubbling but it was less than 12 hours. This batch seems to be bubbling for a...

    Second batch, one sanitation concern

Hey, thanks guys. I got home today and checked out the fermentation. At first there were no bubbles in the airlock and it had been about 18 hours. But then I checked the lid and it wasn't on tight so I sealed it all the way and the airlock began to bubble. No worries. Well, my 1st batch will be...

    Second batch, one sanitation concern

I brewed my second batch today. Everything went really well as I got to use my new propane burner and did a full boil even faster than doing a partial boil on the stove. So, of course I'm now hanging out with family for christmas and worried that the one or two mistakes I made will mess up...

recipe thoughts: light LME vs munich LME

I am about to brew my second batch. My first batch is just about ready to drink. I tried one last week and it was great. It was a pale ale kit that I purchased and I added 2 more ounces of centennial hops to it to make it hoppier. Now, I want to make my second batch closer to an IPA. I also...

    Beer tasting question

My favorite beers are IPA's and anything else hoppy. My favority IPA is the two hearted ale. My question is, I am not sure if I love two hearted because of the hop bitterness, or hop aroma, or both. Basically, I would like to know which one it is to better understand which types of recipes I...
