    Howto: Capture Wild Yeast

This thread is amazing:mug: I was so inspired I decided to try it out with a small wort sample. I put about 4oz of ~1.030 wort in a mason jar and set it out under my covered front porch for 2 hours or so one evening. The temperature was about 53º F. After bringing it inside I transferred...

First Brew Day Of 2013!!! What are you making?

Brewed my first of the year this past weekend. It's a 2.5G test batch using a wild yeast I cultured from my front porch. I tasted the fermented beer from the starter and it seemed spot on for a saison, so I just did a quick, simple extract batch that would allow the yeast character to shine...

    What are you drinking now?

Just finished the dregs from a Belgian IIPA I bottled up. That beer is going to be amazing once it's carbed up. It's about 8% and made with a Belgian grain bill, dark candi syrup, Trappist high gravity yeast with magnum, centennial and cascade hops. Awesome combo. Working my way through a SN...

    What are you drinking now?

About to toss my glass of Old Rasputin after a few sips. This batch is severely oxidized. I thought I had lucked out finding an old dusty 4 pack thinking it would be well aged and delicious. I guess it was just a bad batch or poor handling. Either way it tastes like cheese and wet cardboard...

    What are you drinking now?

Doing a Belgian beer tasting with Duvel, St. Bernardus Prior 8, and Rodenbach Grand Cru. The Grand Cru is especially delicious paired with a good French Camembert.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing my house APA on New Years Eve. Decided to make my last brew of 2012 the same beer as the first of the year I brewed back in Feb. It will be interesting to see the progression of my brewing skill. The first time I brewed it I was doing stovetop, extract, partial boils, and now I'm...

What I did for beer today

Currently heating sparge water for an imperial Belgian IPA. Hit my mash temp which makes me happy. The new thermapen is awesome. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

What I did for beer today

Decided to ditch the BIAB and built a MLT out of a 10G round cooler. Easiest DIY project ever. Went from cooler to mash tun in about 5 min. Celebrated my victory with a home brewed pumpkin pi ale.

Anyone else having efficiency issues with Brewmasterswarehouse?

Even with no-sparge BIAB, I get about 70% which is good enough for me. It's pretty consistent so I just adjust my grain bill.

What I did for beer today

Just bottled my yellow jacket pale ale. I decided to dry hop with an oz of cascade and the hop flavor is perfect. The sample tastes awesome.

    What are you drinking now?

Drinking my Heartwood Hefe and it's a dead ringer for the Weihenstephaner I modeled it after.

+1 Definitely a beer geek, but I'll drink what's available (except Lite beers) at social gatherings when I must.

    Beer for the ladies

My wife is happy with everything from a wee heavy to an IIPA, just so it's flavorful and not watered down tasting like most BMC stuff.

I think I didnt top off to 5 gallons

I just made a 5.2% wit and it tastes great. Very light and the SWMBO loves it. I'd just leave it be.
