    Off Flavor Help

US-05 is cheap, pitching 2 packets is a super easy place to start. Remember sprinkling can decrease viability, so I'd suggest you've underpitched using one sachet. Also, could add another week before racking off. Plastic isn't imparting a flavor unless you've scratched your bucket. Grains also...

What sort of connector is this? Pabst pony keg

That looks like a "Golden Gate" type connection, and the cooperage is the right style for that as well. Can see a patent design here. As mentioned, the internals are stripped. You'll not be able to replace them for the cooperage, and wouldn't be worthwhile if you could. The tap(s) for that...

Lessons from a BJCP Competition Rookie

It's *very* common at mini- or BOS discussions to hear "I judged that earlier and it seemed better" or "...didn't notice that before." I've actually had two bottles of the same entry that weren't even a similar color. Carbonation, sediment, and temperature all change depending on handling, but...

Lessons from a BJCP Competition Rookie

Kit_B, volunteer to steward a local competition and you'll gain a lot of insight. Pouring the entire beer from the bottle then pouring again into judge glasses means carbonation loss and, well, it would be silly having multiple judges evaluate smell from the same glass. Samples are usually ~2...

    BJCP Style Question

23 is the proper fit. It's not balanced like an APA, and it's not as high ABV as an IPA, thus it should be dinged in either of those. And if it seems like either of those, then it's not a very good session IPA, is it? :) At a large (300 entry) commercial competition recently a Session IPA did...

What style do i pick for a competition

23 is huge competition but the most accurate place for an American beer with experimental fermentaion. I see a lot of '100% brett' beers in 16e, Belgian Specialty ('brett' being a 'Belgian microbiota').

    GOOD on Netflix STREAMING?

^^ And then comes season 5... the most frustrating, over the top season. A disappointing finish.

    Sippin' tequila

I recommend again the Hornitos black barrel. Very wood influenced, a "whisky" esque tequila. Won the Denver Int'l Spirits Competition and was the highest overall score, I think. Cheap, too 35 or less.

What style would you consider this?

This is a dumb question. I would tell people: "the grain bill is loosely based on a Belgian golden strong, 100% brett trois fermentation"

    Can I save my Tripel?

I doubt this is improvable. Opening and re-capping is tricky to do cleanly (and if you add anything, like more primings, you'll get foam quickly), but you could try doubling the priming dose for a few bottles. Probably not enough priming sugar to get the high vol CO2 typical of the style. Yeast...

    GOOD on Netflix STREAMING?

Simon Pegg's Fantastic Fear of Everything was hilarious.

    BJCP Study Sheet

Nice job, looks like a lot of work went into that. I would agree with you that "the process of making" a sheet like that is the biggest value - re-writing learned material increases recall. Everyone would have a different "5 words," but that's a great detail, and probably what most newcomers...

    Buckwheat starter for brewing?

bacon will kill your head, most likely. I've had beers with bacon at probably every step, including in the bottle (gushed, floaties, oily appearance, no head). I've not had a sap instead of water beer, though have heard the idea a few times. Re: maple, use "lowest" grade maple syrup you can...

Any astronomy hobbyist on these forums

If you search for the telescope model or size you're considering you can find amateur pics tagged with the equipment they used. You can also connect with a local amateur astro group, check out their set ups and take a peek through them at stargazing g2gs. Probably can also meet folks who are...

    Brewing Apron - Very Manly

Manly brewers bare their chests while brewing. They have boiling-wort scars and DIPAs with chest hair floaties to prove it.

Hauling my brew in the primary

I'm not sure why you're asking. It must be obvious that racking to purged kegs and sealing your beer for transport is a good option; but there must be some reason you aren't going that route. So it seems that you'll transport in the primary vessels either way, right? Maybe it'll oxidize, maybe...

Worst way to tell I'm about to get sick...

< Frequent beer and spirits judge here, I can relate. The only thing worse is burning my tongue, which makes carbonated beer both tasteless and painful.
