Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I finally got my mash/lautertun finished last week. I used an Igloo 5 gallon cooler. I too got my valve/fittings from bargain fittings. When I first put the valve in it leaked, but I realized I did not put teflon tape on the outside threads. Soon as I did that, the leak stopped. Anyhow, here...

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 3 - The Mash/LauterTun

Thanks. I can only hope it gives everyone an idea or two when it comes to building their own setup. Like I had mentioned, I watched these forums for awhile gathering up as many ideas as I could before I planned my system. I owe a big thanks to everyone here.

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 4 - The HLT and Keggle

I had been dragging my feet to get it done. We have been doing a lot of landscaping work in our backyard, so it kinda took up most of my time. But yes, last week was building crazy. I have made a batch. I called it Inaugural Ale to honor the first batch made. I will keep you posted.

Irish Stout Ode To Arthur, Irish Stout (Guinness Clone)

Awesome! I've been dreaming about finally putting in a stout tap and nitro, this maybe the recipe I need to go ahead and do it. Also, you mentioned your Bass Ale. It's another of my favourites, is there any chance you could post that recipe???

Guess what!? I need to make an MLT.

I'd go with the cooler. There is little worry about holding your mash temp. Once I hit my mash temp and put the lid on, that cooler keeps the temp for the full hour, no problem. The issue with using a keg as a MLT is you need to find a way to insulate it to hold the temp or constantly add heat...

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 1 - Introduction

My wife is not a fan of the whole "SMELL" of brewing. In the apartment the smell seemed to last a day or two. Of course there where 2 kids in those 10 years and like I said, many other projects before I even thought about an AG setup. In a sense, I am glad I waited because I was able to find...

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 2 - The Grain Mill

The table serves 2 purposes. I have the grain mill on the top, but I use the shelves and another cupboard area as a storage area for kegs and other equipment.

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 2 - The Grain Mill

Yeah...it's not very big. It holds about 3 to 4lbs when completely full. Right now I'm making 5 gallon batches, so I'm not putting thru a lot of grain. I use my 18V cordless drill to run it. It puts that 3 to 4lbs thru in less then 30 seconds. Here's a better view if the hopper:

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 1 - Introduction

I'm glad your starting! It's an adventure. This forum has tonnes of information and helping hands. It certainly helped me along the way, especially everyone who posted their DIY projects and pics. I am hoping sharing my project will help others as well. Waiting to see your progress!!

Guess what!? I need to make an MLT.

I have a 5 gallon cooler as well. Works great. Once I hit mash temp and put the lid on, it will hold for the full hour. My setup is similar to the one you showed from morebeer. Actually I got my SS mash screen from morebeer, with the valve, etc from bargain fittings. I am going to be posting a...

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 2 - The Grain Mill

Hi All, I'm back for part 2. If you didn't read my introduction, basically I had been planning an all-grain brew set-up for the past 10 years. Well, I finally finished and am detailing the whole build over several posts. Welcome to Part 2. Back in the early spring I started ordering parts that...

My Brew Build - Elm Street Brewery - Part 1 - Introduction

Hi everyone, Sometime around the mid-1990's I was flipping through the TV when I came across a program that would change my life. Watching TVO (TV Ontario) one night I became amazed at this guy who was telling me I could make my own beer at home. He said it was easy and he was going to show me...

    Culturing Yeast

I have been doing some research about culturing too. If done right you can culture many yeast colonies from just one initial source. Then use those colonies to make yeast starters for future batches. MoreBeer sells all the stuff you need to culture yeast. I picked up the book First Steps in...
