    Sour mash not sour smelling

I'll second the method of using the oven with the light on. Here's a lactose starter I just got done with after 4 days. Sour smelling but not funky. I purged with co2 so maybe that helped.

    The Misfits Of Brewing Science

I see that they've dubbed the week leading up to the beer fest "Craft Beer Week". There's a schedule of events here - http://www.nashvillecraftbeerweek.com/ though it doesn't look like much to me other than local bars serving the same local beers they always do :drunk:

Tennessee Group Grain Buy Round 1 2012

Alright, I missed a day of posts and this is starting to sound like a party! I'm planning on getting to Jim's around 8 to start splitting stuff up. I'll pick up some Gallon and 2 Gallon ziplocks from Wally world and maybe a roll of trash bags to get splits started before people arrive. People...

I think I read somewhere you said that the Baltic Porter was one of your finest beers ever made, so....I like Baltic Porter!

    The Misfits Of Brewing Science

No, I got a 20 plate, this guy here - http://www.dudadiesel.com/choose_item.php?id=HX2320BWGH I opted for less plates and the longer length (12" vs 7.5"). Just comparing surface area, the 20 plate 12" chiller is equivalent to about a 32 plate 7.5" chiller. However, I'm no expert but here's my...

    The Misfits Of Brewing Science

I bought one of those cheap pumps (looked just like the one Dave linked, though I'm not positive it was the same GPH) and it was junk. It barely had the power to lift the water from the bottom of the keggle, up to the top of the immersion chiller. Maybe I was doing something wrong; in my anger...

    Engineering Question - Statics

No problem and I hear ya! Unfortunately, I had to take the course twice till I figured it out!:drunk:

    Engineering Question - Statics

Yes, AD is 0. Just look at the joint, it has to be. I know you probably think since you don't know joint D yet, then maybe DA has force, but from the Method of Joints each joint must be in equilibrium on its own. You can solve Joint C very easily as well. The 30 kip force is resisted by the CE...

    Engineering Question - Statics

Alright, I re-read that and think I could make that easier. For method of Joints, just take your given Joint then apply your Sum Forces in Y equation and your Sum Forces in X equation. At Joint G, forces summed in Y are: 86.7-(4/5)GD-GE=0 You can't solve that one by itself. For sign...

    Engineering Question - Statics

I'll take a stab at it. Though these sorts of problems are more easily explained with numbers on papers than words! Indeed you have two unknowns at Joint G, but you still have enough information to solve it. Member GD will take 4/5 of the 86.7 kip Y force and 3/5 of the 10 kip X force. Use you...
