    Edworts IPA Stone Clone

I did a batch of it at the beginning of winter. I changed the hops, though, due to the hops shortage. I used all Ahtanum hops in it. I should be kegging it in a week or so. My initial tastings of it were pretty promising. Seems like a good recipe.

    Freshops question

I apoligize if this is a dumb question, but are the hops from Freshops leaf hops, or do they have pellets and plugs, too?

    The hop shortage

I was just looking at the Northern Brewer site and was aghast at their hops prices. I don't think I'll be buying any hops from them for awhile.

    What grains to "stock?"

I'm sure you're right, but at least then on a nice day like today I could brew something. Today looks to be the first warmish day here in awhile, but I have nothing to brew.

The War on Drugs: They've Finally Arrested All the Kingpins...

Weed should not be illegal. Keeping it that way just creates way more problems than it ever could solve, just as prohibition did that back in the thirties. Even as a parent of teenagers, let's look at the issue of drug sales in high school. Now, I'm not thrilled with students selling weed and...

Might end up being a long evening...

Did you pass out after one ESB? We were looking forward to updated reports from you.

    What grains to "stock?"

My next eqipment acquisition will likely be a grain mill. I am hoping that it will help me have pretty much everything "in stock" that I need if I want to brew and the stores are closed (that would be today, by the way. Warm weather in the forecast, but no grain here and it's Sunday. LHBS is...

Where can I find a 4oz bottle of real vanilla?

I got some from Sam's Club awhile back. I'm not sure, though, if it was a 4 oz. or an 8 oz. bottle.

    Gas or charcoal?

I put propane, but only under protest. Charcoal tastes much better, and, IMHO, is easier to cook with. Gas is just so much more cheaper, convenient and cleaner that it unfortunately is just no contest. I occasionally will fire up my little Smokey Joe with charcoal, though.

How long did it take you to go all grain?

It took me over a year, maybe 2 years, to do it. What was the hold up? 1. Well, first off, it just looked way, way more complicated than extract with steeping grains. Every extract batch I made had an easy to follow recipe. I would read about AG here and in books and it always seemed as if...

Barley Crusher vs. Maltmill, anyone tried both?

I know there have been a number of "which grainmill" threads here in the past, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried both the Barley Crusher and the Maltmill and can directly compare the two. One question I have concerns using mills with an electric drill. The Barley Crusher claims "No adapters...

    How much grain...

do you find yourself using for an "average" 5 gallon AG batch of homebrew? Now, I understand that every recipe is different. I also am not talking about really big beers or really light or session beers. So, in other words a typical homebrewed ale. I've got a reason for asking this. I've been...

    Interesting read on mead

Found this Slate article on mead: http://www.slate.com/id/2184361/?GT1=10935 Kinda interesting, I thought.

    Help, my brews are boring!

I've told this story before here, but when I first started brewing I did a kolsch with extract and steeping and Wyeast Kolsch Yeast. It turned out all milky and yeasty at first, so I just put it in the basement and forgot about it for awhile. When re-discovered it some time later it was Nectar...

    Help, my brews are boring!

Maybe a steam beer would be just the thing. I can ferment in the high 50's right now. Anyone have a good AG recipe for one?

    Help, my brews are boring!

I've been stuck in a bit of a rut lately where all my brews are becoming very similar. I've brewed a couple of batches each of EdWort's Haus Pale, my Vail Pale Ale, a modified version of EdWort's Stone IPA clone (I subbed Ahtanum hops for whatever it was the recipe called for). All of these...

    SWMBO Saves Brew Day

Changing the subject slightly, if you use 2 pots to do AG brews, how do you cool your wort?

    Anyone use Ad-Aware?

When I started having problems with Ad-Aware 2007 I tried going back to an older version, but I found that I was unable to update them. Normally, though, updates are available with the free versions. I have always tried to use more than one anti-spy app, as they all seem to find things that the...

    Anyone use Ad-Aware?

I have been using free versions of Lavasoft's Ad-Aware as one of my anti-spy applications on all of our computers for 2 or 3 years now. Mostly I have been happy with the results. Recently, though, I have begun to have trouble with Ad-Aware 2007 causing one of my computers to shut down when I try...

    MUCH easier than bottling

+1,000 on that! You should put this quote on some sort of a sticky or something. Words can't even begin to describe how easy it is to empty a 5 gallon keg. :drunk:
