B Brite screwup? HOT Water rinsing question?

B Brite is not a sanitizer, while One Step is. B Brite is a cleanser and should only be used as such, but yes, B Brite should be washed throughly. FYI, lots of us use Oxy Clean Free... same stuff, but much cheaper and can be had in larger quantities. You should clean anything that comes into...

    Consumption of beer yeast

Agreed. Lots of vitamins and good for you, but I'm not sure that it might give you some mega gas, but rather it WILL give you some mega gas. I promise.

How to tell if beer is good

Your nose and tongue are the only tools that will tell you whether or not you made good beer, and chances are, you will.

    Low Gravity

I think you'll be fine, after two weeks I'm willing to bet that it's done and you won't loose anymore gravity points, but it would be helpful to know your OG and what yeast was used. My Cascade Blonde was done in a week and it went from 1.066 to 1.014 in that short time using SafAle US-05. Most...

    How are your hallertau's?

OT... I thought that looked alot like my back yard and I laughed a bit when I saw that you're in Eastpointe... Roseville here. Good to know that I can grow Hallertau next year with good results.

    Drink More Mild!

There are about 5 local breweries that I can think off of the top of my head that keep a classic British Mild on more often than not. One of them even re-did their menu to include and they'll always have at least one session beer on and they will rotate traditional lower gravity British...

Sierra Nevada bottles are for unpleasants

I've never had trouble with the Sierra Nevada lables, they always slide right off after a short time in warm water + oxy clean.

Growing irritation at restaurants and bars

It is an extraordinarily frustrating experience when a restaurant or bar doesn't carry anything decent in the realm of beer, and honestly, that's why I've taken a majority of the big chains and franchises "off the list". Besides having sub-par food, the beer menu is usually lacking the waitstaff...

    Auto siphon help

I just use a piece of wood and tilt the carboy, gently insert autosiphon and let it rip; I don't hold it. It picks up a little yeast at the beginning and end of the siphon, but if you let that settle out in the bottling bucket for about 10 minutes, it's not an issue.

    Bleach Amount for Sanitizing?

I'd be hesitant to use bleach as my sanitize of choice and I would never trust it as a no rinse sanitizer. Every professional brewer and brew shop employee I have spoken with cringe at the mention of the "B Word". Use Star San or Iodophore. Both are cheap, no rinse sanitizers that require just...

    OG goes up?

You're good. As previously stated, as you boil down, you loose water, not sugar. Your pre boil gravity readings will (or at least should) always be lower than your post boil readings.

    3 gal recipes

I disagree. I use 5, 6 and 6.5 gallon carboys for my 3 gallon batches and they turn out just fine.

    3 gal recipes

    Because 3 gallons > 2.5 gallons :P

    Should I dump my plastic?

I brewed this weekend after a long hiatus (been busy w/ my new home) and since my last batch of ESB was less than stellar after it was bottled, I went hog wild and double cleaned and sanitized every thing except my bottling gear in preparation of my return to brewing. I tried a bottle of the...

    3 gal recipes

Software would help out too, although the above calculation is sufficient. I do 3 gallon batches and I use Beersmith 'cause I'm lazy. It can scale recipes up or down automatically and while odd amounts are bound to come up, I just round to the highest quarter as long as it is within my target...

How much priming sugar per gallon?

Just FYI, measuring by volume can be a pain. I know you said you can't measure weight now, but I'd recommend measuring by weight whenever possible, and it can be done on the cheap. I got a small digital scale at Target for ~$10 or so and it does the job nicely.

    Storing Beer In Soda Bottles

I'm sure it will stay indefinitely ala glass. They do sell the plastic bottles with screw tops at brew shops that are similar, if not essentially the same as a 2L pop bottle and those keep just fine.

    Taking the plunge

Ok, so just to make sure I've got this: The keg is full and primed; hit it with some gas, pull the relief valve to purge the O2, disconnect and let it carb like normal? Easy enough. Thanks!

    Taking the plunge

I am fresh off of the Michigan Brewer's Guild Summer Beer Festival and I helped pour beer for a local brewery and I really want to start kegging, but now I have a few questions, and I couldn't exactly find the answers I am looking for... I would probably want to let the beer condition in the...

    Founders Kentucky Bourbon Stout

I just hit up my local beer store yesterday and got a 4 pack of this for $10 :) I think I'll get some more. They also had a bunch of Devil Dancer and cases and cases of Hopslam.
