    Help! Forgot Grain Bag!

I purchased a kit online and forgot the grain bag. D'oh! The LHBS closed 13 minutes ago. What can I use as a make shift bag? I'd like to brew tonight. I tried a cheese cloth but the holes were too large. Any ideas?? Thanks!

How long can you leave in secondary?

I figured it would be fine. Thanks!!

How long can you leave in secondary?

I brewed about 6 weeks ago, moved from primary to secondary within about 7 days, as usual. After some procrastinating and a big snow storm, I wasn't able to get to the store to pickup some bottles, so my beer has been sitting in the secondary for about 5 weeks now. I'm assuming this doesn't make...

    Hyrometer

I woke up and checked first thing this morning - about 2 inches of krausen and the airlock bubbling once every two seconds! Woo!

    Hyrometer

Now I see a thin white line forming around the top edge of the wort so it looks like its just beginning to start fermenting, I'll check again in the morning. I'm sure it was aerated enough, before and after pitching. Especially after as I shook the hell out of it for about 4 minutes. Just...

    Hyrometer

It is liquid. I didn't make a starter and the wort was at 70 degrees when I pitched.

    Hyrometer

It's been just about 24 hours since pitching yeast and there is no activity visible at all. Nothing from the airlock, which I know doesn't mean anything, but it is in a plastic better bottle, so I can see that there is no krausen and I don't see anything churning in there. Suggestions? Or am I...

    Hyrometer

Saying the wort was not completely mixed, where do you think I went wrong? I followed the directions best I could and thought I had it down. Dissolving the pale into the boil? Was my rolling boil for 60 minutes not rolling enough maybe? My first batch was spot on when taking readings and the...

    Hyrometer

I'm making my second batch ever, a AHS clone of Full Sail Pale Ale. I just finished the boil and cooled down to 80 degrees, poured into my fermenter, topped off to 5.25 gallons and took the first hydrometer reading. The recipe says it should be at 1.042, but its at 1.065! What should I do??

    StarSan

Cool. I figured it would be okay, but didn't want to contaminate anything. Thanks!!

    StarSan

When I use StarSan to sanitize all my equipment, how well should I let everything dry before using? Does it need to be completely bone dry or can I still use the equipment with some small traces of sanitizer/water. Thanks!

    My First!!

Hey guys. I bottled my first home brew the other day. It is a AHB clone of Newcastle Brown Ale. It's only been bottled for 2 days, but I just couldn't wait for a taste test. Slight color difference and it tastes a bit flat. I know the flatness will change over the next 3 weeks while aged in...

    New to brewing

Thanks for the quick replies! So it is okay to remove the fermenter lid as needed, as long as you make sure nothing falls in? When reading the instructions they make it seem like the fermenter needs to be air-tight, no exceptions, no aerating for the process to be successful. I'll try the...

    New to brewing

Hello everyone, Brewing my first batch and I have a couple questions. 1. My first batch of beer is brewing and has been in the fermenter for 3 days. There has been no bubbling through the 'S' shaped airlock. I know that this doesn't necessarily mean anything, considering there is about an inch...
