    Cooling wort like a noob.

If you're doing full boils ( all 5 gallons) then I'd recommend a standard wort chiller. I only boil 2.5 gallons, give it an ice bath and then add 2.5 gallons of cold water. That gets me down to the correct temp. I'd love to do full boils but don't have a wort chiller.

    cooling wort with ice?

My friend did it and said it cooled the wort real good. I think he used bagged ice. I didn't want to tell him that it may have been a bad idea due to plastic leeching from the bah and possible chlorine. If the ice is definitely " clean", is there any harm in using it as opposed to using water?

    cooling wort with ice?

I brew with extract kits. I use an ice bath and add the cold water that the recipe calls for, in order to cool my wort before pitching. Is it ok to add 2.5 gallons of ice instead of cold water?

    fear the bottle bomb?

I'm a noob. Sorry I didn't mention my gravity readings. It was 1044 OG and. 1006 final. I thought my final gravity seemed too good to be true for an extract though? Maybe I read it wrong?

    fear the bottle bomb?

Just bottled 5 gallons yesterday. At what point can I stop worrying about bottle bombs? I had what seemed to be a full fermentation ...2 Weeks primary 2 in secondary. Bottles resting on the dark at room temp.

    Starting my first brew

On a side note, Stovepipe Porter from Otter Creek Brewery is an awesome beer. Congrats on your first brew. I actually just bottled my first batch yesterday.

    another silly question

My wife isn't a big fan of dark beer. But she loves Molson Golden...the green bottle stuff. Does anyone know of a Northern Brewer extract kit the closely resembles that?

    Ok a few newbie questions

I know your question is pretty much answered. But I wanted to throw my 2 pennies in. Your primary should be 6.5 gallons and your secondary only needs to be 5. Bucket or carboy is a matter of preference but capacity is very important.

newbie needs advice for bottling day

Thanks to this forum, I now have a planned method of cleaning my bottles. My question here is about my plan to sanitize them on bottling day. My Plan: I'm going to fill my bottling bucket with a starsan mix. That will sanitized the bottling bucket. I then plan on filling my bottles with that...
