    StarSan questions

I agree with part about you no longer brewing beer. Or At least don't share it with anyone. If the question (for you) is "rinse or don't rinse", wouldn't the description "no rinse sanitizer" be the answer? Not sure how you, or anyone for that matter, can't grasp that. Oh well, I'll drink my beer...

    StarSan questions

I continue to be dumbfounded by the people who insist on rinsing their no rinse sanitizer. I know "idiot" is a strong term, so I won't use it. but c'mon folks, stop rinsing the no rinse sanitizers. It's pointless, not necesarry, comes with many risks and no rewards. If you do it, at least do it...

    Absolute rookie here...

Was it this forum where somebody was giving away a free starter kit? It was just yesterday too. Search a little on this forum you may get lucky..I'm loving my northern brewer kit. I do 5 gallon extract kits. Couldn't be happier.

Agree with the litmus test. But it can last several months. Test to be sure though.

So I'm trying to clean my carboy...

Use a stick to mash them up. Or get something to hook to an electric screwdriver and blend those suckers up. Or fill it with hot water and hope they dissolve after a few days. The t shirt trick would be fine for one piece, but u got lots there.

    dry hopped with hop pellets

I thought about a hop bag but as a noob I kinda thought they were for whole hops, not the pellets. Live and learn. Sounds like I have some careful siphoning ahead of me. I guess a few pieces of hops in my bottles won't ruin my day. Thanks for the paint strainer idea...will def try that.

    dry hopped with hop pellets

Will the hops sink eventually or do I siphon under them to rack to bottling bucket? Right now, after 4 days of dry hopping, I have a layer of hop particles floating on top. Bottling in 3 days.

How sterilized does it need to be?

I can't believe this thread went 5 pages. Clean, then sanitize. Pretty simple.

How sterilized does it need to be?

I believe c-brite is a cleaner that needs rinsed.

american ipa extract recipe, tastes fruity, thoughts?

Its still a young beer. Give it time for the flavors to blend. I believe a slight citrus flavor in the finished product is expected for this beer...so a stronger citrus flavor would make sense in the unfinished beer. Someone with more experience can discuss possible off-flavors from your high...

Quick way to de-labelize used bottles?

    Soak in oxyclean free.

    Oxyclean free vs. PBW

Yep, the suds and slippery soapy feel are normal for oxyclean. I use that slippery feel to gauge when the bottle is thoroughly rinsed...when its no longer slippery, its rinsed. I've never used anything besides oxi free and have zero issues.

    StarSan questions

When diluted at the proper rate, its fine. A concentrated dose could be an irritant. Most cleaning products (for beer or otherwise) work the same way. Bleach comes to mind, chlorine too.

    Abv% after bottles carb?

Does the carbonation process increase the abv% of beer? Seems like it should or does table sugar not give off alcohol when fermented?

    Boyfriends Birthday Present

I used the basic kit from northernbrewer.com. I bought a 7 gallon stainless steel pot from a separate store. Plan on $200 or so to get equipment. Add some more for a recipe kit. I never had any problem finding free used bottles.

    Fermentation stopped after 2 days?

Yes. Active fermentation may have ended, but there's still more work for the yeast to do. They will "clean up" and get rid of some things that would otherwise cause off flavors.

    Fermentation stopped after 2 days?

Give it 2 weeks before bottling. Some might say 1 week. Some might say 3. Whatever you choose, I wouldn't bottle yet.
