    Hay home brew!!

Welcome aboard - sounds like you're off to a great start. You'll get a bunch of secondary opinions, I'll just say that I went secondary on my third batch - it substantially improved the clarity of my beer. Importantly, I believe it starts the conditioning process so the beer is ready *sooner*...

Hello Im new and need help

Cloud - it will settle and clear some in time - you siphoned a little close to the bottom - after a couple more weeks pour carefully and get mom or dad to taste it, since according to your sig you're just 19 years young...

My wife isn't too pleased :-\

John - mix up a solution of oxy or b-brite or the like, take off the burner element, place an old folded bath towel on the stove top and soak it with the solution - keep it wet overnight and you'll save yourself a bunch of scrubbing.... speaking from experience... skol!

    For all You'ze NC Types

Enjoyed your hospitality about a month ago at the end of the off-season on Outer Banks, but didn't get to visit the Weeping Radish (or is it Onion?) - a good time was had by all, and we'll be back. Interestingly, a family who is friends with my son came down this week, spent 4.5 hours just...

    The Dumbest Checkout Clerk Ever

Agreed, altho I love Fleet Farm or Farm and Fleet - the closest I can get to one is Racine - on the other hand my weekend gig is Menard's, and most of us old guys wear the goofy blue vests - then some customer will walk up and ask if we work there. It's nice knowing what you are talking about...

    Huge shakeup with the TDF!

Point very well made - this could be the Tour where the domestiques' get to come up and shine - and every one of them deserve the recognition - it's brutal pounding away all day in the peloton knowing full well that you can NOT win - remember, these guys are doing 30+ km/hr going up an 8% grade...

    Top 5 obscure albums

OK, speaking of stream of consciousness, how about Shawn Phillips, specifically Furthermore, Contribution, and Second Contribution. And not just because he's a buddy of mine......

    So in the big picture...

Funniest thing I have heard in a long time - walking into Comiskey hearing the T-shirt guys calling Wrigley the "world's largest gay bar" - I love both teams, just not a real big baseball fan. Oh yeah, those were free tickets too! Skol!

OMFG I'm so old - what about: Nektar - Remember the Future Rick Wakeman - Journey to the Center of the Earth Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner Kraftwerk - Autobahn Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother, or any other vinyl not getting airplay today OK, so it's late 70's progrock - go ahead...

    Bummer and a big decision...

Bad day, Dude. Dachshund's are prone to back issues, as I recall, but it's a tough decision nonetheless. I went through a similar situation a couple of years back with a 14 yo cocker spaniel - it wasn't until the dog couldn't stand on his own that my wife would accept things. Sort of tough...

    Raspberry wheat

Actually, I added 2 tbsp at bottling, when I do it again I would likely add just 1.5, mine's been in the bottle for about 3 weeks and it's mellowing, but the berry flavor is still pretty Bright (as SWMBO puts it..) I suppose another brand of extract would work, but McMormick's is pretty popular...

    Raspberry wheat

Gabe - I got a delicious recipe from a long-time brewer that was basically a dunkelweiss with 1.5 to 2 ounces of McCormick's Raspberry extract in the bottling bucket - very very delicious. He told me, and I believe him, that he's tried the fruit puree thing and it was over the top, and that...

Wort Chillers and All Things Copper

Lodi - home of some legendary duck whose name I can't remember, as well as a cool free carferry across the river, basically pulls itself back and forth on a cable anchored at both ends - hope it's still there, the line of cars waiting to cross in the summer kept a small economy afloat with ice...

Wort Chillers and All Things Copper

My N. IL son goes to a Central Cheeseland college - poor guy endures FIB comments constantly.......of course, he's just now returning from 90 days in Italy and 60 days in London with a new appreciation for wine and (thanks goodness) beer.........

Wort Chillers and All Things Copper

Whoever might be thinking of building or buying a wort chiller - do it soon. My weekend gig at Menards let me in on the fact that anything copper has doubled in price over the past three weeks - I saved half a month ago by building my own wort chiller, now it would be cheaper to buy one - not...
