    hops removal: uber beginner question

I use a hop spider. Pretty simple to make one or grab one from an online store. Makes it super easy to simply lift your hops out prior to transferring to your carboy.

    Thoughts on new software......

Thanks again everyone. It sounds like I'd really just be wasting time (unless counting it as a personal/learning project). I've played around with BeerSmith, and to be honest, I really don't like it - which was my thought process behind just writing something myself. I'll take a look at...

    Thoughts on new software......

The biggest difference with QBrew is the ease of use when comparing to other applications out there. While there are a lot of other applications out there, I had always found QBrew to be the easiest to use - no need in setting up a profile, etc.. But then, you could very well be right in...

    Thoughts on new software......

I have been kicking around the idea of writing a new Windows applications, and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on if this is something that would be worthwhile............ I had always been a fan of QBrew - not sure if anyone remembers that. I liked it because it was simple to use, and did...

    8.5 gallon kettle

I have been an extract brewer for years, and I am thinking about trying a BIAB brew. My kettle is only 8.5 gallons, and have been looking at some recipes to try out. Here is one I'm looking at: https://www.boomchugalug.com/downloadables/recipes/velvet_all_grain.pdf Think it'll be possible...

    My Man Cave/Tap Room

I showed my wife this thread over the weekend, and she gave me permission to take over half of the garage to do this as well. Of course, she gave me a honey-do list of items that I have to knock off first before taking on this project. I'm pretty psyched!

Gotta give Bar Keepers Friend props

I had gotten a new kettle and went over to a buddy's house to brew. I left my burner at home as he had one. However, we didn't realize his burner wasn't in the best of shapes. The end result was my new kettle getting pretty smutted. This is the bottom after trying to clean it with soap and...

    SunCal Merlot?

Thanks. I believe I'll just hit up the LHBS tomorrow morning and pick up a Vintner's Reserve just to be on the safe side. I don't like wine - my wife loves it. Figured if I started making her some wine she'd chill with fussing at me for making so much beer. :)

    SunCal Merlot?

Hi all. I'm new to making wine (but not to brewing beer), so bear with me if I ask something dumb. :) I was recently given a wine kit from a friend that included a SunCal Merlot. Looks like it was this kit here - http://www.eckraus.com/necessities-box-sun-cal-size-merlot.html The date...
