    Primary / No More Bubbles

oh! well, if i had a conical, id be dumping the yeast after you have reached FG for at least a week or two. I don't secondary, but there's no reason to take unnecessary risks. IMHO if you have a conical, do a dump.

FWIW, I stopped using a secondary many years ago.

If someone else finds this post, I went ahead with used ss barrels from http://usedstainlesssteelbarrels.com/ the food grade ones. Works, no issues with licencing.

    Bucket residue help

PBW works a little bit better for me than oxyclean. Could just be me.

    PVPP and its use.

I think people recommend filtering it because it is not digestible, or natural. I cant find the article I read about it, but I guess filtering is not required? I have heard of some brewers not filtering it. I prefer gelatin myself. Some folks use isinglass. Both are natural and consumed by...

You can cold crash it to get it clear, or use finings.

    milk outmeal stout help

1lb of DME is about the same amount of sugar as 1.6lb of grain. You can leave in the DME, but your beer will have a higher OG and possibly more alcohol. I just did an off the cuff calculation and came up with those numbers.

    new kettle-how to clean?

Ivory dish soap looks ok: water, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, alkyl dimethyl amine oxide, sodium choloride, PPG-26, cyclohexanediamine, phenoxyethanol, methylisothiazolinone and fragrance. Read more: What Are the Chemical Ingredients in Ivory Liquid Dishwashing Soap? |...

    milk outmeal stout help

Mashing is the process of converting starches in the oats to simple sugars, something that the yeast can eat and turn into alcohol. By the recipe above, that looks like what you are doing (mashing) but your missing Diastic Power from a base malt. There are not enough enzymes in the oats to...

co2 in beer line towards end of keg?!?!

Now that you mention it, im not sure how it got co2 in the line either. It was leaking from the o-ring pretty badly, so I swapped the o-ring and lid with a new one. Still leaked, so I just set it aside. I will try the lube and see if it still leaks. This one was deceptive, because it didn't...

co2 in beer line towards end of keg?!?!

I agree, check for leaks. My keg was leaking from the lid o-ring at the taproom, and i would get co2 in the line. Transferred the beer to another keg, and retired the leaky one, problem solved.

    milk outmeal stout help

    1. yes 2. I don't know, sorry. 3. Yes, I would add (in your case) .5 lb of some American 2 row (milled) with the oats, and remove 5 oz of DME. The oats need to be mashed, but there does not appear to be any Diastic Power in the ingredients there. I'd skip the 115 rest cus I'm lazy, and its a...

    Bucket residue help

This has happened to me on stainless. It sounds like oxalate scale, you can remove it with acid. Can you try starsan? Acid no 6 also removes it, but i don't know if it is available to you?

    Vienna malt

I don't know the recipe, but that much difference, in a light beer you will notice it. Like, if the recipe is a stout or porter, sub the DME, no one will know. If its a bitter or pilsner or something light, then I don't believe that the substitute will make the same beer you intend because its...

    hop clog

I use the kettle screen from morebeer on my kettle. I use grain bags for the hops, or in your case I would use a hop spider, grain bags or hop sacks. I say one of those, cus I don't know your batch length. The grain bags are reusable, they seem to last forever. Hop sacks are disposable.

    Stuck fermentation..help!

My IPA was stuck at 1.048 from 1.085 due to multiple bad ideas on my part. I use cal V and heated it up to 72 and roused. I got it down to 1.030 and is still going, slowly (1pt/day ish). The grav samples taste ok, no noticeably strong esters. and goodluck.

    new kettle-how to clean?

PBW and oxyclean (free if possible) work fine on SS. It is a real pain to get off the scale layer if you let that dry. You will want to rinse it off till its not soapy anymore, like squeaky clean. This would be my vote. Never used barkeepers friend, probably a good idea too. I would hesitate to...
