    Take on Dogfish 120

Going great still. It's been a real experience to just brew without expectations and only feeling. Before I was always concerned about each detail, so it's actually nice to just create. Even if this is the single most expensive brew I've ever done at over $130 for the pieces and parts. That...

    Ss BrewTech FTSs Controller

I use a brewpi to manage my pump/heater. That said, I have two controllers available if you need one. A dual stage and a single stage. If you wanted one for backup...just saying. You can't beat the programming of the brewpi. That's what I disliked about the ftss controller. If I wanted to raise...

    Ss BrewTech FTSs Controller

Mine is fairly new, but I had no issues with accepting temp or anything. I do hear that SS has great support though, have you reached out?

    Take on Dogfish 120

I do have one with an adjustable arm so I can get it down in there. But I didn't use it this time. I just have this feeling the utilization goes way down as the grainfather doesn't boil very vigorously to get the hops inside of the spider really moving. So this brew I just dumped them in.

    Take on Dogfish 120

So I decided to go for it. I've been kegging for some time now, yet I wanted something I could bottle and age. So I remembered a few bottles of DFH 120 I had a few years back that I kept around and enjoyed them with time. Now it's my turn. A little brewblog... Ingredients and everything come...

    Ss brewtech conical

Yes, down the out tube. Standard procedure of purging the keg first, then start the transfer, and pop open the purge valve to allow the flow. Sorry, you'll also need one of these or this one without PRV to put in the top and push the Co2. I just use a small paintball tank I keep around the...

I use one of these paired with some keg tubing and a ball lock fitting on the other side to the keg. Easy and clean. Just be sure to get some extra clamps and gaskets for each connection you make.

For me it's one less thing to take apart and clean. They're much easier to clean/sanitize as there is no disassembly required. Therefore, less chance of an issue occurring during the brew.

Good point, I say the butterfly valves are a big plus, they sell them for $60/ea, so you're at $520. Pop it in your fridge and you're good. What about the need for heating though? Will you add a small heater to the fridge and use your controller to manage that?

How can I carb a keg in 3 days?

I had a similar situation this weekend. I put it on gas on Friday afternoon, 30psi Saturday morning I purged it Took it out of the kegerator, laid it on its side, hooked it up to gas at 30psi again Gently rocked it back and forth, watched the meter go down during rocking, then back up when...

I have two of the BME 7 gal and a standalone glycol chiller (not DIY). I initially got the FTSs2 system for heating and cooling it, I ran through 2 batches that way and I did not care for the FTSs controller. It goes up, it goes down, etc, so I bought a brewpi and never looked back. It's working...

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

Don't get discouraged by the threads on here about it. Those are a DIY dream and work great. If you buy the unit directly from brewpi.com it's much more streamlined, and you get the latest features. The install on the v3 is all done through software mostly with a good wiki write up on how to...

    Grainfather!!

I'm about to brew a variation of the Dogfish 120 on Friday, it'll be about 21 pounds of grain, but I'll be OK. I'll report back with any issues.

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

What have you all thought about the FTSs controller? I'm constantly seeing it fight itself on cooling then the next phase is heating/etc. Plus I wish I could program it for a fermentation profile and walk away. I don't like ramping up or down manually. As such, a new brewpi v3 is arriving...

    Decline Of The "Homebrewing Lifestyle"

I'm 30 minutes away from AIH, yet when I order online for store pickup from them, it takes 48-72 hours for the order to be ready. I can order from morebeer.com and it's here the next day. The last online order I placed from them I ordered on a Thursday, and I didn't get it until the following...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

A take on Dogfish 120 is going down on Friday, starter is in the works as I type. I ordered 3 more kegs, another chronical, and the brewpi v3. On top of having the week off of work, it'll be a great brewing time!
