Rhino Farts: H2S or kMeta offgassing?

Ahh. OK, this is more match sticks than rotten eggs. S02 i would guess.

Rhino Farts: H2S or kMeta offgassing?

I purchase raw cider (this year at 12.5 brix) from my LHBS. SOP is to dose with .1g of kMeta 24 hours before pitching. I add Distillavite GN and nutrients and pitch US-05 or some other neutral yeast (I like a clean, simple cider) and ferment at 67*. I'm five days in and I'm getting...

    Indiana Three keggles..

I'll post pics but they're very boring: all non barrel (read:Coors) 15.5 US gallon stainless steel kegs, reasonable condition -- no dents but all are show signs of use. The bottom of them has been cut out but the top remains and the spears have been removed. Pics forthcoming tmrw (5 Nov 2015)

    best/cheapest places to buy 50lbs of 2-row?

I'd try your local brewery or distillery. We (distillery) are more than happy to add a sack or two to the next order. It's never affected shipping costs. Any brewers in Indianapolis PM me if you want to order.

    Greetings from Indianapolis

20 years ago before kids I roasted my greens almost weekly. Well, my oldest is a senior in high school and my youngest is six (long story dont ask) so I guess it's about time to dust off the Poppery I's and start roasting again. I'm a former french press users that switched to Aeropress about...

    SS Basket: Mesh or Perforated?

If you're not recirculating probably nothing. However, with a 200 micro mesh & recirculation it seems you'd need to choke back your chugger to a mere trickle!

    Indiana Three keggles..

Three 15.5 gallon kegs each with the "bottom" cut out and fitted with glass lid. $65 / each. Pick up only in Indianapolis. No other fittings installed. Switching to eBIAB so no longer needed.

Installing PEX Pipe for Water Supply - Issue - Need Help

No kidding... Im pretty sure the bread trick is urban folklore. My luck has it always gumming up the toilet stop! If you can drain the system at a basement sink and then "pushing" up the pipes just enough to keep water away you can probably get those soldered. I can't stand sharkbites and their...

    SS Basket: Mesh or Perforated?

That comes as a bit of a surprise to me! I have a 300 mesh hop basket from UtahBioD and pellet matter does get through (although not much). Clearly perforated wont work with .025. My 2 roller monster is set at factory default of .045 which gets me efficiency in low 80s. I normally condition the...

    SS Basket: Mesh or Perforated?

Done! That leads me to believe that anyone who is BIAB(asket) should be: 1. Using a standard gap setting rather than a narrower setting when milling grain and 2. Have their basket manufactured from perforated stainless rather than stainless mesh. A note on faster conversion.. even in my...

    SS Basket: Mesh or Perforated?

The conundrum of course is efficiency -- if I go with mesh I can mill tighter and hopefully get a few points in efficiency. However, as others in the BIAB forum have pointed out you can experience recirc overflow issues. Then there is the strength / durability issue. I can see any argument...

    Hello World

Welcome! And since you're from Missouri you can also distill!!

    SS Basket: Mesh or Perforated?

Subject about says it all. I'm having Chad at arborfab.com put together a basket for my 142 quart Bayou Classic pot. Originally I specced #400 mesh but as I questioned the strength of mesh he recommended perforated stainless. I intend to crush fine to help with efficiency but I can see some...

First cider in a long time

I've used both Hays and unpasteurized from my LHBS. Gotta say I think the Hays is better. Our local Costco carries it. Great stuff.

About to switch: 1/2 BBL 3V to 1 BBL eBIAB

Following up to my own post... I've ditched the basket (if the Amazon seller will cancel the order :o) and am getting a quote on a custom filter basket from arborfab.com. Thanks to those that recommended this approach.

How do you Store Your Grains?

Homer buckets w/ gamma lids. I've heard multiple times the "food grade-ness" often has to do with mold release agent. I give me buckets a good scrub and they're good to go. Haven't died yet.

Anyone build an overhead bridge crane in their brew area?

Slight hyperbole perhaps, but from the time I start heating strike water to the time I'm done cleaning it's every bit of 6.

About to switch: 1/2 BBL 3V to 1 BBL eBIAB

I started brewing with extract and the occasional bucket-in-a-bucket ala Papazian about 25 years ago. After a lengthy brewing hiatus for wife & kids I built a 3 vessel system. Now, after 5 years using that I want to cut more time off my brew day. I've already invested in an on-demand water...
