    On-Demand Sparge via RIMS

@Bobby_M -- I recall reading somewhere (for the life of me I can't find the reference) that it's not trivial to remove chloramines via activated carbon filtration (Martin Brungard -- can you confirm??). Here in Indy our water is normally treated with chlorine but during a short period in the...

    Weighing BK during the boil...

Actually I was thinking about not moving the BK. Just leave it sitting on the scale for the entire boil.

    Weighing BK during the boil...

I had considered that.. Since the scale has a capacity of 330 lbs I was planning (for a proof-of-concept project) to lay a piece of durock on the scale. Unless anyone has a piece of asbestos I could have.

    Is this place any good?

Where are you located? Twenty Tap in Indianapolis often has one or two of their beers on tap. It's pretty good. Nothing to swoon over IMO, but good none the less.

    Weighing BK during the boil...

I neglected to mark my sightglasses with bobby_m's vinyl number set so I'm faced with the task of recalibrating/remarking as the initial Sharpie marks have faded. I recently purchased a Weighmax postal scale to weigh out grain and I got to thinking.... why couldn't I boil my wort while it's...

    Anyone stall a 1HP motor??

Hmmm. Good point. I supposed after adding up all the expenses for this project another $42 wont break the bank. McMaster Carr here I come...

    Anyone stall a 1HP motor??

Continuing in my mill build... I am planning on a simple on/off switch for my mill. All the "cool" builds have a nice forward / reverse drum switch. I thought I'd save the $42. Has anyone with a 1HP motor ever actually had to reverse their mill? I can't see it stalling on anything short of...

DIY motorized grain mill motor question

I'm in the midst of my build now. Here's the current item list: http://goo.gl/CyvqhA

    Vertical Motor Mount?

Now you're just speaking Greek! ;-) So bottom line: Regardless of bearing type, can I expect it to last three years running it two minutes per week?

    Vertical Motor Mount?

It's not like I'm running this thing 24 hours a day. More like two minutes a week. I too did the "live chat" and got the same response you did. Were I a betting man I'd say the only email I get will concern those "cant be beat" prices they offer. If it does have roller bearing what would...

    Vertical Motor Mount?

Here's what I've go going on currently. There should be plenty of space below the work surface for the grist catcher. You can see the extra bulge in the front/left -- I assume that's the cap? The mounting foot is on the back side out of view. Eric

    Vertical Motor Mount?

It's this one from Global Industrial. The listing is woefully lacking in details.

    Vertical Motor Mount?

In a nod to drunkenmonk's build, I too have set off on this budget-busting build. One small change I'd like to make is to mount the beastly motor vertically beneath the work surface. Something like the attached. Is there any reason why I shouldn't orient the motor vertically other than mounting...

    Adding Whiskey ABV Calculation

Two thoughts: First, why worry about it. Second, just do the math(s) based on volume. How much volume and at what ABV. You're 200 ml of liquid added about 80 ml (is JD7 40%??) of etoh to the entire volume. Now I just reread that you didnt take gravity pre-cocktail.... I'd stick with #1 and...

DIY motorized grain mill motor question

Are you using sheaves or gear reducer? How about some details on the motor. I opted for a (relatively) cheap chinese one from Global Industrial. Mine was about $140 for 1HP with 56C face. Is the motor 110 or 220 volt? If the former its going to pull about 15 amps, just fyi.

my build -all electric blinged out controller

What arduino are you using to drive that screen?? I dont think the Mega has enough memory and even if it did wouldnt redraws be slow?

Quick hopbill recalc (the woes of no sparge)

I've been making batch after batch of Biermunchers Centennial Blonde in order to figure out No Sparge mashing. I'm using this calculator from Ken Schwarz to adapt my recipes. And, well, it's not been easy. For example, following his formula for Centennial Blonde I have gotten on two consecutive...

my build -all electric blinged out controller

If you're going to do all that work on the arduino thought about using the PID library rather than the hardware solution? Looks sweet BTW!
