Coffee grounds or cold pressed coffee in BYO founders breakfast stout recipe?

I think it means grinds, although I can't be 100% sure. Had the same question when I brewed this on Saturday. From my own consumption of mass quantities of coffee, I think in retrospect I would use cold brew instead of grinds. For one thing, less crap in the pot/fermenter. For another, I...

    Sugar substitution question

I'm planning a brew day tomorrow (the weather's supposed to be decent, for a change!), and the recipe I'm using calls for 8 oz of Dark Muscovado sugar. Unfortunately, I can't find any in town, and really don't want to put of brew day while I wait for shipping (already bought everything else...

Use KNOX! It's the best label adhesive

Tested last night - ran under cold water, and the ink in the paper didn't run (it had already run a little when I first applied the label), and the label didn't budge. Ran under hot water, and it came off in about 30 seconds, with no residue. Success!

    Brewery names--what's your story?

I named my brewery "7 Cubed Brewing", after the nickname my wife and I gave to our wedding day (July 7, 2007). It helped that I already had the domain name (7cubed.ca) registered ;) 7 Cubed Brewing Logo by matthew_middleton_dot_ca, on Flickr I used "The Village" font in homage to one of...

Use KNOX! It's the best label adhesive

Tried this last night, using labels that were printed on fairly cheap paper, and using an Ink Jet printer. As of this morning, they look quite good - a couple little ink runs here and there, but not nearly as much as I would've expected. Haven't wetted them yet to test the adhesiveness. BTW, I...

    Popular cider add-ins?

I've added a cup of cooled, very strong, black tea to my ciders. Gives it a tannin boost. Also, if you're adding sugar, you can dissolve it in the tea when it's still hot.

Attaching vinyl tubing to kitchen faucet

Thanks everyone! The good news is, the previous owners of the house were cheap as heck, so the kitchen faucet is quite generic. Should be able to remove the aerator with no fuss at all.

Attaching vinyl tubing to kitchen faucet

I bottled my first batch of beer about a week ago, and have another kit on order (should hopefully be picking it up soon). One of the things I found problematic was getting water in to the primary fermenter. For that first batch, I used an 8-cup measuring cup, but now that I've got the...

    Nope, using a floating hydrometer.

    2nd Time Stuck

It's been a total of 25 days since I started it, and about 9 since I repitched. The yeast that came with the kit was something generic-pkg said Coopers, but nothing beyond that. The yeast I repitched with was Nottingham, which was recommended by my local homebrew shop. I figure it's only an...

    2nd Time Stuck

Hi all! I'm making my first batch of beer, and have run in to not one, but two stuck fermentations! Background: I'm using the Brew House Pilsner kit, no modifications to start with. The first one was likely my own fault - the temps in the room I'm using may have fluctuated a fair bit...

    Time to bottle?

I've started my first batch of cider, using apple juice, white sugar, a bit of strong tea for tannins, and EC-1118 Champagne yeast. It's been bubbling away since Oct. 18 (10 days as of posting). I started out with 8 L of juice, and added another 4 L on Oct. 26th at the advice of a friend...
