How to get that Nutty Flavor??

These are ask great ideas. however, I was thinking that I would add something to the secondary to increase that nutty flavor. Rotated punkin seeds sounds cool! Are there any other ideas out there? Thanks all!

How to get that Nutty Flavor??

Hey all, I have brewed my 10th batch of all grain batch and it was an English Brown Ale. I would like to add more of a nutty flavor to the beer by adding some adjuncts to the secondary. Please let me know any ideas on how to get that nutty (walnut, peanut, pecan, etc.) flavor. I'm not exactly...

    Consistently low final gravity

What is the big deal if you miss your final gravity number? Does it change the taste of the beer? I just thought lower the fg the higher the alcohol content which make me happy :ban:

    Simcoe, Columbus & Amarillo IPA?

I do not have the hops just yet, but I live really close to Midwest and they are pretty good at keeping hops in stock. I'll have to check out that beercaculus site. maybe that will give me a better idea of what and when. I think I'll use Columbus to bitter and Amarillo to dry hop. Going off...

    Simcoe, Columbus & Amarillo IPA?

I really like these three hops so I'm trying to make an IPA to include them. My first attempt at building an AG recipe and I don't have any software to tell me if I'm on the right path...Was hoping you all could help me out with the grain and the quantities of hops and boil timing. I'm looking...

    Breakfast Brew?

Ok, I've been around the block once or twice and I keep hearing about these damn breakfast brews. Northern Brewer has a Breakfast stout kit, a couple bars I've been to have breakfast beers on the menu. And it leaves me wondering, what makes a beer a breakfast beer?? Is there a...

Rookie All Grainer - High Gravity Reading?

This is a great spreadsheet! I wish I could see the formulas to figure out what you are actually measuring. For instance how do you measure yeast attenuation? How do you calculate final gravity? What are grain points and how are they calculated? Very cool stuff!

Rookie All Grainer - High Gravity Reading?

Thank you for all the responses! I have done a total of 3 all grain batches so far. My first two I was well below the desired OG reading so that is why I'm shocked that I was high on this one. Also, I didn't even think to stir the wort before taking my sampling so that may be the issue with...

Rookie All Grainer - High Gravity Reading?

wow, I think I have learned more in these responses than I have in the past 10 years brewing...THANK YOU! Ok, so back to the beer that I brewed this weekend. If my OG reading was higher then expected (1.060 vs 1.042) can I add water at the end of the boil to lower the reading to desired level...

Rookie All Grainer - High Gravity Reading?

This is awesome information! Thank you dbhokie and brauerei for the info! So I have one more question for you. what does it mean if I miss the hydro readings according to taste? If I'm low on the hydro reading does it correlate with a specific taste to my beer? If I'm high on the hydro...

Rookie All Grainer - High Gravity Reading?

Ok, so I have done 3 all grain batches now and I'm trying to hone in my skills...I'm currently using a 52qt Igloo cooler mash tun trying to achieve at least 6 gallons of wort to boil down to a total of 5 gallon batches. My problem is hitting my hydrometer readings. I suck at that! I'm new to...

Ag but forgot to take fg reading

I finished my first all grain brew, but got too excited to taste it and forgot to take a final gravity reading before I kegged. Can I still take a reading or is it too late?
