maybe you could have strained the grains from your water by using a second pot and typical kitchen strainer/colander. then put the water back in your brewpot, add extract and begin your boil.

greetings all! just got started on homebrewing with my first batch - currently conditioning in the fermentor - an english pub style bitter (steeped grain extract kit). hopefully to be bottled tomorrow evening. glad to have found a wonderful resource of information and experience. cheers!
