What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

    1. while using my immersion chiller some hose water got in the kettle. I had this terrible feeling through out fermentation it was going to have an off flavor. I was wrong, turned out it was an awesome Smoked Porter. That my friends want to brew again. 2. I decided to use some Irish moss, and...

Bottle guy wants to buy my beer

No, I do not think we can agree that there is no real threat of arrest for selling your homebrew. No one is distorting or exaggerating the possibilities. It is clear, cut, and dry; if you break the law and are caught you will face lawful action. As you have been asking for some kind of proof...

what was your most dumb move in brewing?

My dumbest thing would have to be my first All grain brew. I knew you had to take a first running off the mash tun, but had no idea what to do with the malty goodness. So i threw out the first 2qts in the grass. I have made other dumb mistakes, but learning from them all...makes us better...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Can't say I can remember pouring out any beers, but I did not like wild blue like others. I just drank the 6 pack I had and well did not mind them. Don't get me wrong I do not seek it out, but if it was all I had I would drink it. I also was offered a heineken at a friends house recently. I...

    plate chiller performance??

You will not have to recirculate. With plate chillers and counter flow chillers one pass it good. If your cold water is 70 then it can cool your wort down to 70. All you have to do is watch your wort output temp and adjust the flow accordingly. As for filtering hops out...a false bottom and a...

    New brewing system

The stand looks nice, how much did it cost to build it? and where did you get the material from? As far as pumps go, in the picture I can't tell how you are going to get your hlt to pump into the mlt. But I am sure it would just be as simple as connecting and disconnecting hoses. Is that a...

    Homebrew club problems

OP: I started a HBC last year, no dues. We are pretty much like Walker's GRABASS crew. But I think a solution to your clubs dilemma would be to: 1. suggest "pay it forward"- to gather brew equipment you may have outgrown. 2. brainstorm with the club of other ways to use the money. If I...

    No Trub in Kettle hmm...

You put the small amout of hops in a sock, so pretty much you would not have much trub unless you had some other adjunts. RDWHAHB

Can I reseal Hops Direct bags?

To answer your question, Yes you can iron the bags shut again. Just push out as much air as you can, iron and save in your freezer. I iron mine directly to the bag, no ill effects.:mug:

    Differences between 115V & 230V pump motor?

Ok, I apologize, I am no electrician and certainly don't claim to be. I just thought that was how it was. I will STFU now..:drunk:

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

Don't beat yourself up about it. It could have been comprimised anywhere, as for me an investigation was conducted which found an employee at the commasary was collecting and selling the card information. The good thing is your bank will reimburse you.

    Differences between 115V & 230V pump motor?

I think you will have to either stick with 230v or get a converter. The converters are not cheap either. When i was stationed in England, I had the same issues with 115v/230v. At least they provided us with free converters. Cheers!

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

In 08' I was in Afghanistan and the only card I brought with me was hi-jacked. Gas purchases in Louisiana. The bank caught it quickly, reimbursed me, and issued a new card. The only down side was that they had to send the card to my actual address on file. So I was without any money for the...

    Spent Grain - Bread

So I finally baked some bread. It was good, but I found I had to add a little more flour to the op's receipt. The other thing for me is waiting a little longer for the yeast to really take hold. I think I was a bit premature on that aspect. I only waited about 3hrs for it to rise. As far as...
