  1. Flyin' Lion

    Hello from Richmond, VA

Cheers Brewspook, check out the James River Homebrewers, its a good club and they meet every second wednesday at Legend's Brewing. Don't know if I'll be hosting another Brewday down here in Chester as I'm leaving for Delaware soon, but keep an eye out just in case... EDIT...

    Ikea 1L Swing-tops

There's really only one way to find out if it will work. :mug:

    Ikea 1L Swing-tops

Not sure about their sturdiness as far as bottle bombs goes (you should be all right), but my issue with some store-bought swing tops is the tops themselves. If the stopper is not made of ceramic, you will unlikely get a good seal. Most bottlers have moved to plastic stoppers because the ceramic...

    Brew noob in Portsmouth, VA

Cheers from south of Richmond. Lots of good brewers down your way too.

Ever accidentally find yourself on Google?

My email address is my full name @ hotmail. I received an email last year referencing something I'm not very capable of (professional cooking). Turns out I share the same first and last name of one of Gordon Ramsay's proteges, as well as, some graphic artist in Australia. If you google my...

    Water for home brew

Bottled spring water when I did extract, but tap water for my all grain beers (the boil precludes the necessity for pre-boiling).

Letting specialty grains steep for longer than 60 min

You should be fine, maybe wind up with a little higher gravity.

Letting specialty grains steep for longer than 60 min

All grain, Partial Mash or extract with steeping grains? You should be fine, you'll wind up with better efficiency. What type of beer are you making, better malt efficiency may dilute your hop IBU's (probably not significantly, tough).

    Redwood Lodge in Flint, MI

Sadly, they were all out of the cask when I was there... I believe I had a milk stout and I can honestly say it was pretty good.

    Redwood Lodge in Flint, MI

Stopped in here on our way out of Michigan. Pretty good food, but I only got to sample one beer.

    Yet another Michigander

Been out of it a while, but welcome from a former Mason resident. The wife, kids and I were all vacationing in Farwell for about a week, but again didn't manage to make it into Lansing or K-zoo (Bell's). Cheers Sanveann. :mug:

    Rockin' Kegerator!

That's a clever idea, I like the tie-in with the theme of the party as well... :mug:

And We Call it 'Cletus the Fetus'

Both of ours were by zipper as well. Though, I was locked out for a year after number two was born--I'm not kidding. Good luck Evan, keep us posted. :mug:

    World Beer Festival - Richmond

I might actually get to attend this, what with having weekends off starting Aug 1. :)

    DIY Bottle Opener

This isn't mine, but I found a pic on the web of a similar one (only the names have been changed to protect the innocent :)).

    DIY Bottle Opener

Looks pretty cool. I've been saving bottle caps for a while and I use a nifty little gadget that pops down over the entire cap--opening the cap evenly. It even has a magnet to catch/hold the cap as well. Sadly, I don't have any pics to share.

    First AG...might have blown it

    1. Not such a big deal, you'll lose a few fermentables--I had a thermometer that read lower than normal and I subsequently mashed lower than normal, but still made beer. 2. I'll top off if I take a hydrometer reading and am higher than expected, but otherwise you're just watering down your...

Republic Airways purchases Midwest AND Frontier this week

What I meant was that he does in deed fly for Republic, just under the Chatauqua (sp?) banner. I wasn't trying to refute what you stated about the merger not affecting the pay of Republic pilots. As it is, you guys make decent money (as captains). The reason I never pursued an airline career is...

Republic Airways purchases Midwest AND Frontier this week

He flies for Chatauqua (sp?), out of DC, I believe.
