    Help with mash tun please.

PS - I thought 48 qts was too big at first but when I did my first stout that called for over 12 pounds of grains for a 6.5 gallon boil / 5 - 5.5 gallon batch I was glad I didn't go smaller

    Help with mash tun please.

I have a 48 qt square cooler and love it. I used 1/2" pvc instead of copper and created a simple manifold. You just buy some elbows and and some t's and cut some slots in the straight pieces. I didn't even glue them just pressure fit so I can put in dishwasher to clean and then reassemble...

    Bucket Fermentation Temperature Question

Brewmasters Warehouse has some new fermenting buckets that are a bit thinner walls so should cool down a bit better than standar onew. Also they are 8 gallons which give a little added head space which is good. I just bought one and used it last weekend and love it so far (it also is...

    Espresso ESB Anyone

Thanks Mongrel - you think add right at flame out so it can steep a few minutes before cooling the wort down or right before pitching?

    First Batch Questions

I agree with Frodo - if this is your first batch don't worry about the gravity targets. I would just get a feel for the setup and procedures and enjoy the first product. As you move along you can tweak your techniques and your equipment to hit the right targets. When I first started I could...

    Espresso ESB Anyone

Total hop schedule I was thinking about was .75 oz of chinook at 60min /.5oz challenger at 30 min / .25oz east kent goldings at 20 min and another .25 kent at flame out. I have also read about some people adding lightly ground coffee beans at mash time while others actually brewing some shots...

    Espresso ESB Anyone

I tasted a Peaks Organic Espresso Amber Ale yesterday and loved the aroma and the general coffee notes and overall taste but I have never been a big amber fan so it fell just short of being great in my opinion. I have seen many coffee stouts, ports and now this amber. Any thoughts on an...

Soap in my fermenter - Help

Thanks for all the feeback guys. I always hate that nervous feeling when you think something might have gone wrong. I've settled down a bit now- Will just sit back and relax and wait until time to keg and give it a try. Might give me an excuse to may another batch this weekend (as a backup).

Soap in my fermenter - Help

Generally I have a bucket of star san set aside to clean anything when needed. I drop my wort chiller, hydrometer, aearater, yeast vile, etc in there as I need it while brewing (just personal preference why I don't boil the wort chiller - i figure why start out with a 200 plus degree wort...

Soap in my fermenter - Help

Yes I actually did a quick taste of the bubble and it was definitely soap. Per samc, I am hoping the 5.5 gallon to a few drops of soap ratio is not going to affect things. - maybe some of the soap bubbles will bubble out of the air lock (yeast is pretty active as of last night so we shall see)

Soap in my fermenter - Help

I pulled it out of the star san and there was a bubble (i thought it was a star san bubble and dropped it into the wort) then I was like oh wait a second and tested it again by putting the wort chiller back in the star san bucket when i was done cooling and it was definitely a soap bubble). I...

Soap in my fermenter - Help

Everything was perfect until I set my wort chiller in what I thought was a clean star san bucket. Turns out I did not rinse all the soap out of this bucket before star sanning as when i pulled my wort chiller out of the wort there was a soap bubble in between the coils. I still aerated the...
