    First batch blunders...some advice needed

so not to thread jack here, but you seem like you would recommend 2.5 weeks in the primary and then straight to bottles over the 1-2-3, no?

    Just did my first brew.

i fear that my blow off tube might have had a small leak. there was some serious action up front, and a lot of pressure. when i switched the tube for the airlock, the tube came out VERY easy. it was stuffed in there before quite snug. there is a 1/4" layer of trub on the bottom, and nothing up...

    Just did my first brew.

it's Brewer's Best Cream Ale. i really am liking that color, i hope it's the right one i'm going to bottle tomorrow, it's only been 3 days but i think it's fine i'm kidding. i swear.

    Just did my first brew.

after 24 hours: still blowing off steam, decent layer of foam (krausen?) on top: (you can see the excessive spill over from my blow off :)) after 48 hours: dark brown stains on the top part of the fermenter... no layers of anything. beer looks VERY thick. i assume everything is fine... but...

Primary fermentation in a bucket instead of carboy ?

i'm running a 5G carboy right now for my first fermentation, and in 24 hours it blew out more than a 1/2 quart of beer. wish i had a larger one, but at least i didn't airlock it :ban: so am i losing a lot of beer since i hardly have any headspace?

    Just did my first brew.

yeah... well i'll take a second opinion on that, but that makes sense i put my blow-off in 1/3 quart of water in a 1 quart container last night. woke up to some active blowing and decided that it was fine. on the way out the door for work i changed my mind and put a hefty bag under it. thanks...

    Just did my first brew.

First and foremost (sp?): i spent A LOT of time reading on here, went through the entire FAQ sticky, read 'How to brew', the first section of 'The Joy of Homebrewing', countless random threads, and a bunch of searches via this site. All i have to say after that long winded sentence is that i...

I want to have a mini pipeline; fermenting time questions

sounds easy enough; first will be that American Cream ale extract, which is lighter in color, so i should be able to tell relatively easy. granted, i'm going to use the hydro for good practice, i don't plan on racking to a seconday unless it's very very cloudy for some reason after 2.5+ weeks...

what to do when fermentation seems to stop

do you plan on racking to a secondary? or going right to bottles? 4 days does seem like a very short time for complete fermentation.

I want to have a mini pipeline; fermenting time questions

time for the ubernoober questions: 1 floc out... what exactly does that mean? (i get the concept) 2 how do i know when it's happened?

    Preparing for my first brew...

heh, mine was due in friday; i was so excited, i even took the day off so i could sanitize/clean everything, make a starter, and be ready for brewing on sunday/monday. well FedEx decided that it was a great idea to postpone deliver until tuesday; so here i sit today, waiting to go home and...

I want to have a mini pipeline; fermenting time questions

one thing i've gathered is that the hydrometer knows all. are you saying otherwise

    You're no longer a n00b when...

i got a good laugh out of #1-100, and i'm printing that list out to guide my first brew :D

I want to have a mini pipeline; fermenting time questions

well i might as well list the two brews (both are extract kits): American Cream Extract Hombrew Beer Brewing Ingredient Kit (Learn to Brew) I will do this one first. Reason being, it's a lower ABV and a lighter beer than my second planned beer. i was thinking of racking to the 2nd bottle...

I want to have a mini pipeline; fermenting time questions

I've searched this, along with "time in the secondary" and so forth, but i still have a valid question. I have 2 PET BB's, and i think i'm going to get into brewing head on (note: first batch is going to be this weekend), so i was wondering if this would be a safe pipeline. Brew batch 1; 1st...

    hola

ah. i read (somewhere) that for a partial, 2 3 gallon boils would do fine... i'm doing my first batch this weekend, (digression: sorry for the thread jack) would you recommend doing two 3.25 partials instead?

    hola

correct me if i'm wrong, and this is my first post; so i'm sure i am wrong, but in a 5 gallon batch, wouldn't you boil between 5.5 and 6 gallons of water initially to account for evaporation?
