So like a ******* n00b I broke the capper halfway through bottling my first batch. The LHBS opens at 11 tomorrow. Of course, the priming sugar has already been added. So what do I do? Toss it? Cover it and put the airlock back in? Any suggestions are appreciated. :confused:

Btw, my OG was 1.050. It's right around where it should be. The extra % is probably all that vodka that was sucked from the airlock into the bucket when I was prying the lid off. :)

Oh! Thank you! I wasn't aware of the formula, wonderful information to have. I don't think I have a very good understanding of the science. Why does the hydrometer have a potential volume of alcohol down the side if it doesn't actually read that content? :confused:

I have a similar type question. I took my first gravity reading today, and it's at 1.010, which goes along with the final gravity the kit suggests I should have, but 1.010 seems to correspond with a lower abv than what the beer said it would be (4 to 5 percent). ??

I really like Black Sheep....had it for the first time about a year ago in Manchester, UK. I was thrilled to find it in a couple of local bars and grocery stores.

I live in an apartment building in Chicago and our temp in controlled by radiators, so sadly, I have no say in the internal temp. I could move it to a cooler area, but one that has more flux in the temp throughout the day (like by a window). Also, right now I have it shut away in a cabinet so...

Thanks for the tips everyone. I will try to get a makeshift cooler made today to get things down a notch or two. I didn't stick the fermenter outside, as I'm pretty sure -7 (like it was last thursday) will have a negative impact on my yeast ;) Today feels nice and it's still in the 20s...
