    Unopened beer collection.

I don't know how the caps on the bottles will fare but I had a few six packs of some beer I collected over the years at Daytona Bike weeks back in 1982/1983/1984 time frame that ate right through the cans. They were some collector cans of Harley beer with the dates on the cans. I think...

    ideas for DIY coasters

I've made quite a few from solid surface countertop scraps. I cut them into rough rounds 4" to 5" on the bandsaw and glue them to a piece of wood to screw to my lathe faceplate, turn the edges nice and form a drip catcher ring on the top edge. The material comes in an awesome selection of...

Whew! I saved a stuck sparge

Never a stuck sparge with my copper manifold. Never used any rice hulls either. Nothing in my mash but grain and water.

    Stopping in Birmingham Alabama

I really like the beer at Avondale over Good People. Avondale Battlefield IPA is great. Cahaba is just getting started and their beer is very good also. Be advised that all 3 of these breweries are on the side of town where caution must be used after dark. Birmingham didn't get chosen by the...

    Slicing the Bottom of Keggles

I know there are post on here regarding this but I think the real reason is to be sure your keggles have holes in the bottom so pressure can't build up and explode. Maybe someone can point you to the link for a video of a keggle that exploded during a boil.

How much silicone tubing do I buy?

I underestimated how many hoses I would need. If you plan on using a pump and pumping through a counterflow chiller and back to a kettle for cleaning the number would be 3 total. I only made 2. Now my final count is 3 and a half. I made up a short one to get below the siphon line to empty...

    Camlock thoughts

Everything I have in the brewery on the HLT and BK is stainless. I went the cheapo route on the camlocks and bought all aluminum. While I was at it I bought all the dust plugs and caps for every one of them except the one short hose I made up just to get below the siphon line on my keggles and...

    Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye

All I can say is yummy. Love the hops profile this beer has. I'm stockpiling while it's still in the stores. Only problem is I can't keep the bottles from popping open and hopping into my hand!

    Thermometers

If those probes are the metal sheath type, put them in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or so and see if they don't start working for you. Just put the hot end in the oven and leave the connection end outside the door. It worked on 2 that I was gonna throw away. Mine got wet taking mash...

    Filling CO2 tanks

We have a place that makes dry ice in town that fills your bottle. They can even hydro your bottle if it's out of test. I think the name is American Carbonics so maybe it is a chain?

    Thremostat for my kegerator

Personally I think the STC-1000 Aquarium Temperature controller from EBAY is the way to go but I sure do hate the thought of having to convert temps from Centigrade to Fahrenheit to figure out the temp.

    Thremostat for my kegerator

The cooling range for the Honeywell RTH111 only goes down to 50 degrees f on the cooling setting. I like my beer to be somewhat colder than that. From the Honeywell operating manual: Temperature settings cannot be changed. • The System switch is off. • You are setting the...

    counter flow chiller

I'd sure hate to think I had to get a string through my CFWC. I figure maybe I could push a solid wire through it somehow but it would really be tough. If it were me I would #1 Blow compressed air through it to persuade the spiders out. #2 Shoot the garden hose water through it to see if...

Think freezing could rid those nasty skidmarks?

Help! Bottling day is tomorrow and I dont...

Sanitize and clean are 2 different things. First they MUST be clean. That means get everything out of them. Best way I have found is a PBW or Oxyclean soak and a scrub with a bottle brush. Get all the foreign matter and insects that may have taken up there gone. If you want the labels off...
