    Poll-->Best Brewery Power Source

    Think of how hot the area around your burner is. That's a lot of energy not going into the pot. I've heard numbers before that half the heat from a burner is lost to atmosphere. Not sure if that 50% is true or not, but suffice to say it's nowhere near as efficient as an immersed element.

    Broken Thermometer - Tasty Beer - What to do

    First off I refute the premise that a pumpkin spice beer is "so good", so I vote dump.

    Poll-->Best Brewery Power Source

    I feel like it's not really much of a comparison if we're going by "best". Electric is quiet, efficient, able to brew indoors, potential automation etc. Also I havent brewed on propane in probably 6 years but I recall having to scrub my pot because wort would scortch to the bottom sometimes. Not...

    I'm Sooo Done with keg cold crashing

    Do you not notice the air rush when you remove the stopper? I tried that once and when I pulled it out it splashed as if I had dropped a rock into my carboy. Unless you are letting it rise up to the same temp before removing it that's going to happen from the vacuum.

    Help choosing a Conical Fermenter

    Beautiful.

    Help choosing a Conical Fermenter

    Yeah that's a bad way to do business, you can't punish people for your own mixups. And especially don't sour a $2k sale over $10 part. If they want it back they could send you a prepaid UPS label to slap on a box.

    Bummer about the spray ball mixup, that's frustrating. Oh well, looks great.

    BIAB RIMS without drilling kettle?

    Yeah I think that might work well. I tried a lamp with a reptile heating bulb pointed at my pot, wasnt enough to really help though. I've thought about making a reflectix jacket and lining the inside with heat tape but don't really care enough to bother.

    BIAB RIMS without drilling kettle?

    I wonder if on a low setting it'd be enough to maintain temps without overheating the bottom too much. Maybe just build an insulated box and have a space heater blowing at your kettle, lol.

    I'm Sooo Done with keg cold crashing

    Yeah 24hrs isnt really enough time...wait another couple days before you dump 10 pints down the drain lol.

    I'm Sooo Done with keg cold crashing

    Did you move the keg? My experiences are if I cold-crash in the keg the first few pints are cloudy, but certainly nothing like you are having. The crappy thing though is that if you even so much as scoot the keg over it starts all over again.

    BIAB RIMS without drilling kettle?

    Because with insulation you'd avoid the few hundred+ dollars on a pump, RIMS tube, drilling your kettle etc. Up to you. The more complicated systems are fun but they're not exactly "set it and forget it" as you think. Well, at least not when compared to just wrapping up your BIAB kettle. A...

    Stone to layoff employees

    Not necessarily. The better (which is a bad term for me to use since we're talking about personal taste) product doesn't necessarily win. Even if you love Stone, you see three new IPAs on the shelf you've never tried before, odds are you might give 'em a shot. Even if you go back to Stone...

    Issue troubleshooting 50a pid panel

    And just to be clear -- what do you mean by firing light? The indicator lights on the panel there, or the out light on the PID? You do have your temp probes plugged in, right? Just mentioning since they arent in the pictures.

    I'm F'in done with SSR's

    In a previous build I had two of the cheap Foteks work fine for a year, and then one failed right after another, then both replacements failed the next brew day as well. I went back to the Auber ones after that. The frustration is just not worth $6 in savings.

    DIY Auber BIAB kit; Trouble

    Did you have your PID telling it to fire? Any wiring diagram/pics?

    Grain Mill Justification

    $66 in bulk locally is a ripoff. Any other LHBS or a friendly brewpub nearby? I can get 50# sacks of domestic for around $35, imported for about $55. I was getting friendly with a brewpub before I just moved that sold me a sack of imported MO for cost a couple of times. That paid for my $99...

    10 gallon biab

    That's what you get for ignoring everyones advice about keeping a gallon or two in reserve so you can stir, lol.
